One example off the top of my head, there's this artist called Billie Eilish. Her fan base is very young 12 years of age and up, but we know how that goes--even younger kids listen to her. A few of her songs are about suicide.
Here's an article about one--
Billie Eilish's "Everything I Wanted" Lyrics, Explained
Like I said, that's just one example.
As a parent, who admittedly worries about the usual stuff our parents worried about back in the day-- teenage pregnancy, drug use, etc.. Like those issues, I really would of liked to be the one to breach the topic of suicide to my child. I had to have that discussion with her when she was just 11 years old, and at the time I just couldn't imagine I needed to, but I did.
They even had some movie recently that was nixed because it lamely dealt with a bunch of children committing suicide. The movie wasn't made for adults either...
I have two other daughters, 19 and 30 years of age, and I had these kind of conversations with them, but it wasn't when they were eleven years of age. Our youngest is 14 now and while I am quite the hands on parent, kids over exposure to things these days make it more difficult to weed out the negative stuff.
I admit, I am waaay too old for this. I could handle this stuff at 40.. Why can't she just sniff modeling glue while putting together a B-52 Stratofortress like I did?
