I've been working for weeks or months on a blackcurrant recipe. For some reason I got stuck in a rut. Mixed SFT's of 3 different blackcurrants and each possible combination of 2, so I have 6 KFL's sitting on my desk. Kept trying them every day. I liked one best but the next day I liked another one best and couldn't make my mind up.
Last night I got fed up with myself and decided to make a decision before I went to bed. Now I have a candidate. I'm going to mix 3 versions with different %'s of the 2 blackcurrants and set a deadline to choose. Then I can add some meringue.
Never got stuck like that before. Normally it's a couple of hits and done.
Meanwhile the temps have been in the 70's recently. That just doesn't happen round here in Nov.
I try not to rant on here about non-vaping stuff. Read on if you are bored or whatever.
All this year I've been fighting in a bloody battle in our town over a new levee. We have 300 houses set in a loop in the river with a canal on the other side, mostly small old houses on big lots. Then over the last couple of decades several millionaires moved in, bought multiple lots, knocked down the old houses, and built mansions along the levee. They used their money power to bypass the planning rules and build on top of the levee. One power couple have an elegant $3.5M mansion partly built on top of the levee with beautiful views of the river, and they own 12 rentals in town as well. Most of the houses are in the 100K to 200K range. Now the 100 year old levee is failing and the City is ready to rebuild it. Their engineers estimated an 8% annual chance of a flood, increasing to 15% in ten years.
In a flood the town would be under 10' of water and the city have said they would condemn the whole town if that happened. But to rebuild the levee they have to tear down 7 mansions that are built on top of the levee. The mansion dwellers don't care if the town floods, they would just buy new mansions somewhere else.
The upper class fought furiously against the levee rebuild. They used their contacts to plant stories in the local newspapers and TV stations and plastered the town with professional yard signs and hired lawyers. Every month this year their crew showed up at the town board meetings and tried to monopolise the conversation with moral outrage and conspiracy theories and other nonsense. They even brought local TV crews in a couple of times. I was in there every month launching loud angry rants just to disrupt them. I distributed a flyer and knocked on doors, recruited supporters to join me at the board meetings. The town board is planning to hold a town vote later this month and there seems to be around 80% in favor of the new levee. There's not a lot of sympathy for entitled millionaires so soon they will be gone and the rest of us will have a nice new levee.
Sadly there are some not-rich residents who will also lose their houses. Including one couple in their 90's who have lived here all their lives. Those 3 houses would have been saved if not for cost of buying out the millionaires.
