I did. The person said that we didn't get enough snow/water this winter and these types of trees were stressed. He said to do a deep root feeding and water it a lot which I did about two weeks ago. Where there is green around the bottom I noticed there are new buds but most of the tree is looking kind of dead. My wife told me to stop watering it that it wasn't going to come back but I want to keep trying. I have some of the fertilizer left that they recommended so I'm going to give it the rest of it before the next rain.
I would continue trying as well.
Many years ago we had a nice big tree in our yard. It was there when we bought the house. I can't remember what kind of tree it was. It started dying slowly. Same symptoms as yours. I did the same as what you are currently doing.
We had an arborist come over. S.E. Wisconsin has clay soil, which is not good for whatever kind for tree it was. He looked at the tree roots and noted they were wrapping themselves around each other. The tree was basically choking itself off. It could not be saved. My neighbor and I eventually cut it down. We used parts of it for a fence. The rest was firewood.
Some trees do not do well in clay soil here. Others
thrive.
¯\_(ツ)_/¯
