There are two lights in my new room. SIL had one all wired and spent half the time reading directions. Really glad this guy took that light down to check it out.
I’m surprised since it sounds like he’s pretty handy. Lights are one of the easiest things to wire.

I just figured out why I’m getting gurgling on my mtl rta. I forgot that the long fill was 50/50 and I just used some premade 70/30 so my ratio came out thinner than I’m used to using.

He’s pretty good with outlets but beyond that I have no faith. His favorite thing to do is hold down the couch. I know he got a hunny get your .... up list.

At 16, I boarded a plane in Atlanta. It was 104 in the shade, early August. I got off the plane at Sea=Tac and it was 77 degrees. I wore my winter coat for 1 month and everyone laughed at me.

No doubt! That's tank top and shorts :)

    Uh, yeah. Unless challenged.

One place we rented, many years back, the owners were doing a small half bath renovation while we were moving gear in. (I'd haul a load to work, unload after and then head to our then home, rinse and repeat.)

Got there one day to unload, and the power panel (on the back porch) was open, one breaker tripped. Ok, I'll unload the truck and then take a look.

Closed the breaker and it stayed in. Went to the renovated bathroom and the light is on. The switch is off. Flip the switch to on and hear the breaker trip. Yeah, black and white on the switch, then paralleled to the fixture. Yup, close the switch, dead short. No guesses what they'd have done if it was a 3-way!!

They really should have come up with a different color code for wiring those 3-way switches. I don't think they should ever have the hot side on a white wire. jmo

I came to the US in 1989 and moved into a 130 year old house. All the electrics were the old style peg and tube, the insulation was cracked and disintegrating. It was a big house. The inside walls were either solid brick with grooves cut for the wires, or lathe and plaster. I learned from books and it took me 5 years to rewire everything.

In the UK there are major penalties for doing your own wiring. It's scary there, 240 volts. My father was an electrician and he still wasn't allowed to do work himself in our house.

It's hard to remember now but I think live was red in the UK, which makes a bit more sense. Neutral was green and ground was black and white stripes I think.

That's a big job. The knob and tube was good in it's day, but it's so old the rubber inside the cloth insulation just crumbles when you try to bend it. Our whole house had 60amp service when we moved in. 4 screw in fuses and pull outs for the main and range. The PO had 30 amp fuses in it, lucky he didn't burn the house down. :)

From what I’ve seen, on a three way switch there’s usually a red wire for the other hot leg. I haven’t messed with many. My work is with industrial welding and cutting equipment.
