And yeah, I know people tire of hearing "for the children".......... the global problem we are facing today is one our children's children will have to deal with, if we, Here and Now, fail them.
And from what I hear the younger generation are well aware of all that, and take it a lot more seriously than us oldies.

Talking of wind, I read about a new design of wind turbines recently. They don't have big propellers. They have a narrow ring of vertical blades that spins around a central pillar. Much less stress on the pillar so it doesn't have to be so massive, and they are a fraction of the price. They can be built anywhere from huge to small back yard versions. They don't kill birds either.

And all sorts of new tech coming in like sea and wave powered gear.

The cost of sustainable energy is falling rapidly, it's already cheaper than the old stuff. That fact may make the decision for us, even without talking about global warming. Big Coal and Oil will fight it off for a while though. They have a lot of money and power, plus an army of useful idiots to go to battle for them.

Saw this in an article about the effects of quitting smoking.

"When people quit smoking, it took 10 years for their average life expectancy to return to the same level as non-smokers, according to the study."

Sounds good to me, especially as I'm coming up on 10 years.

The article also mentioned some new findings about the degradation of the immune system caused by smoking. This was from a new study with a fairly small number of participants. The buildup of immunity after exposure to new diseases seems to be slowed down by smoking. This effect can take decades to return to normal, though it is most of the way back after 10 years.

    Somewhere between here and there
Good morning. As usual, the week is flying by. We sat and watched a recording of the Super Bowl celebration yesterday and the news crews were just about to wrap up when the shooting happened. Not a lot of details yet on what happened but heard that it started with an argument and think it was accidental that bystanders were hurt rather than someone purposely shooting into the crowd.

    Morning, mixers.

Light rain and cool temps continue, with snow higher up. Not a lot, but any is better than none...
