Got some bad news last night at our monthly town board meeting. We’ve been in the process of getting our levee fixed for several years and work was due to start this summer. Just found out that Indiana is withdrawing their contribution to the levee project which will sink it. And losing the levee is just the start of our problems.
The new State Governor is going full MAGA. They are canceling dozens of programs that give grants to repair roads, power the street lights and all sorts. Our ancient town hall isn’t ADA compliant and can’t be brought up to code due to it being a crumbling wreck. We were due to get a new one as part of the levee upgrade, The grants also pay for our town marshal and his official car, and the snowplow, etc. The consequence of all that is we would have to introduce a major town property tax to survive.
We could avoid it all by giving up our status as a separate township and merge with Indianapolis which the city has wanted us to do for years, but the people on the town board said they will never agree to give up our township status. They have 4 years left on their term.
Sorry to dump this here but I don't have any social media to complain on.
Did I mention we have freezing rain coming down now.
