Why other vapers or a shop? Not sure I understand. Do you mean that something may have happened to my tongue (taste buds)?

Anyway, this is the first time this has happened. I've never had a problem with this company before. All the MSDS (Material Safety Data Sheet) of companies who produce PG describe it as being slightly sweet to the taste (on the tongue). Mine are bitter. Maybe I'll ask my friend to put a drop on her finger and taste it for me.

Because you got 2 bad ones from different places, I would want to see if someone else described the same taste from it. I have vg that is almost 10 years old and the taste hasn't changed at all to me. My first thought on your bad one would be the formulation or contamination but when you said 2 different sources, that is odd. Unless the same company made them or if both were exposed to extreme temps, maybe. Although, I have trouble with the heat theory cause we heat juice to vaporize it and I don't get a bitter taste when vaping vg/pg.

Sure hope you get to the bottom of it. Please let us know what you find out.

This is just PG he's having the bitter problem with. I'm thinking it had to be stored in a hot place because it takes me a very long time to go through a gallon of PG and I don't refrigerate it. I think it all came from Essential Depot.

Yeah, I said vg but meant either/or. I have both pg and that is almost 10 years old, stored in a not very cool closet and no off taste so thinking some contamination at the source which is concerning.

@PJReid @IDJoel @FranC I goofed! I should have been more specific. What does your PG taste like with a knuckle test? Or on your finger or wherever you want to put it? Lick test. Mine is tasting terribly bitter and most folks say it is slightly sweet. The MSDS also describes the taste as mostly tasteless but slightly sweet. This is how I remember it until my latest orders came in.
@muth, I don't (personally) get any real useful experience from knuckle testing (licking raw concentrates), as that is not how I am ultimately using them. Whether it is a flavor concentrate, or base liquid, they are going to get diluted by other things. Even after combining all ingredients, I am still only getting minimal exposure (via vapor), instead of the much heavier contact exposure licking drops of liquid provides. (It is like comparing the aroma of a large puddle of perfume in the palm of one's hand; to the faint "waft" of aroma that floats off a drop placed on the wrist.) So, for my addle-brained mind, and abused taste buds... there is no comparable/informative data that I receive. (I do understand, and respect, that others do seem to find knuckle-testing useful. I am just not one of them.)

That disclaimer now on record... :D

I just (for the first time ever) did a knuckle test of my PG straight from the bottle. To me, it does have a distinct, noticeable astringent, slightly "chemically" taste to it. It is not so much "bitter"; but it isn't pleasant either. "Kinda-sorta-but-not-really-but-sorta" similar to that same artificial/chemical note I used to identify with old-school diet sodas (like Tab). It does also have an underlying minor sweetness, but nothing in comparison to VG. It certainly isn't without flavor (like water), and I wouldn't want to drink a glass of it. I will say, it does have the notes I ever so faintly picked up vaping plain PG, only magnified 1,000 times (again, this is why I don't knuckle test).

HOWEVER.... I get none of these tastes in my mixed e-liquids... including my regular unflavored mix. :)

    Further disclaimers...
My PG is 4(ish) years old, and from the last 15% of a 1 gallon bottle (lots of air exposure) that has been stored in a linen closet; so I don't know if that has had any effect. I did not knuckle test it when it was first opened so I have no comparison.

Muth, to my mind, a fairer/more informative test would be to vape just a bit of straight PG on a clean, freshly wicked, atty. Or, even better yet; mix up a small (5mL should be ample) recipe you are very familiar with, and vape that. If you can identify a displeasing difference in the mix, from what you are used to; then go searching for alternative suppliers.
    :)

For myself, I think I'm very tuned to any sweet taste and I get more than a low sweetness from my PG. I am able to taste something hiding behind that sweetness which could be on the bitter side. I taste none of this once mixed in a final juice.

Don't laugh. The Cheddar could be interesting depending on how it actually tastes.

I guess I’m an ol stick in the mud ... you drug me kicking and protesting to cereal 27, granola, mascarpone and brie. And I’m big enough to admit, yes, they’re yummy and in several advs now. Cheddar though just seems too savory. Although I know some yanks put it on apple pie.

I actually hate cheddar cheese, so a massive NO from me, I do like garlic and onion, but sure wouldn't try vaping it, but know oneonone flavors cater more for food flavoring than vaping, but did love their chewy chocolate bar, but after buying once, they was always out of stock afterwards.

Maybe, maybe not. Flavors don't always taste like they are supposed to. It might not taste a whole lot like cheddar but more like a good mixing cheese. I'd be willing to try it to find out.

I love Cheddar Cheese, garlic and onions too. No interest whatever in vaping the last two..........

Those look like they could be right up @Shadav's alley. Might be just the thing to get her Nacho Cheese Doritos vape together. Now to find a chili powder concentrate... hummm.

This is a good thread to ask this question: What does your PG taste like? I'm not going to say what others have told me or what I've experienced but I recently had 2 batches of PG that I got refunded for.
I've never noticed a taste but you got me thinking so I just put a drop on my tongue... (now my taste is still a bit off after breaking out in a rash and hives monday night, donno what spawned that) but I got a slight metallic taste is all not much but that's what it was a hint of....

    hehehehe and YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I will need to check these out! hm pretty sure i've seen chili powder somewhere... I have
Capsicum and Jalapeno for a nice kick ;) and I do need something to go with my Worcestershire, still not sure why I got that other than just for s&g :p I'm sure at one time I had something planned for it (as well as all the other odd flavors) but for the life of me I can't remember anymore.....

OOO has a couple of chili options too (do be careful; not all of their concentrates are intended for vaping). Use a moderate dose of Acetyl Pyrazine for the corn chip (just a bit less than the "burnt Frito" level).

For Worcestershire ideas... my first thought was a bloody mary vape. ECX had a tomato concentrate. Celery could be replicated with FLV Lovage Root (said to taste like celery). A bit of lime, gin or vodka, and you are all set! Oh! And, you could use @FranC's Black Pepper concentrate to get that touch of "fresh ground" note too!

Or cumin, oregano, and spicy red pepper.
