Good morning Fran! (though, for me, I should be saying good nightGood morning, random folks![]()
LOL, you sure keep some strange hours.Good morning Fran! (though, for me, I should be saying good night)
Start with the base you like the best and then mix 3-4 variations that you think you might like better. You'll eventually find the base you love. We all taste thing differently.Yeah Fran, I will probably mix a couple today. Plan was to work outside but with little sleep, I don't think I am up to it again today.
I got my other flavors in so want to try a creme de menthe, Andes candy, recipe just for something different. I made a peanut butter thing after you talked about a mix and I need to fix it. It tastes floral to me, I will add some honey and see how that goes.
I seem to do better if I stick to one profile for a few days. Did the peach, now I might move to cheesecakes. I have never found a base that I love.
Oh, my.I knocked over a full bottle of flavoring and spilled most of it, not going well so far.
Either the Sugar Cookie or the Cream. How much of each did you use?I got out V3 of the blueberry cookie I have been working on last night. I liked the base and did two remixes. In V3 I added sugar cookie and hs cream. Maybe too much. Something has pretty much killed the blueberry flavor. Maybe I should have left out the cream. I've still got V4 to try which I used biscuit instead of sugar cookie. I'll see if it's any better.
For me, usually a few drops of lemon brings the blueberry flavor out.I got out V3 of the blueberry cookie I have been working on last night. I liked the base and did two remixes. Hello, Mixers. Looks like @hittman is on a mission for blueberry cookies ! Go for it !
Me, I am starting into a Berry Cupcake that is in need of work. I started with ;
Vanilla Cupcake 4%, Raspberry Sweet 3%, Strawberry 3%, Sweet Cream 2%.
The Raspberry is out in front, with the strawberry trying to keep up. I am not getting any sweet or cupcake flavors at all so far. Also, seems to be a dull 'chemical' aftertaste. Maybe up the Vanilla Cupcake to 6%, and drop Raspberry to 2% next try ....
For me, usually a few drops of lemon brings the blueberry flavor out.
That's a helpful idea, thx. I'm just hellbent on knowing why my usual PG suddenly tastes different from the way it used to. I am talking to the supplier and waiting for a reply.@muth, I don't (personally) get any real useful experience from knuckle testing (licking raw concentrates), as that is not how I am ultimately using them. Whether it is a flavor concentrate, or base liquid, they are going to get diluted by other things. Even after combining all ingredients, I am still only getting minimal exposure (via vapor), instead of the much heavier contact exposure licking drops of liquid provides. (It is like comparing the aroma of a large puddle of perfume in the palm of one's hand; to the faint "waft" of aroma that floats off a drop placed on the wrist.) So, for my addle-brained mind, and abused taste buds... there is no comparable/informative data that I receive. (I do understand, and respect, that others do seem to find knuckle-testing useful. I am just not one of them.)
That disclaimer now on record...![]()
I just (for the first time ever) did a knuckle test of my PG straight from the bottle. To me, it does have a distinct, noticeable astringent, slightly "chemically" taste to it. It is not so much "bitter"; but it isn't pleasant either. "Kinda-sorta-but-not-really-but-sorta" similar to that same artificial/chemical note I used to identify with old-school diet sodas (like Tab). It does also have an underlying minor sweetness, but nothing in comparison to VG. It certainly isn't without flavor (like water), and I wouldn't want to drink a glass of it. I will say, it does have the notes I ever so faintly picked up vaping plain PG, only magnified 1,000 times (again, this is why I don't knuckle test).
HOWEVER.... I get none of these tastes in my mixed e-liquids... including my regular unflavored mix.
Further disclaimers...
My PG is 4(ish) years old, and from the last 15% of a 1 gallon bottle (lots of air exposure) that has been stored in a linen closet; so I don't know if that has had any effect. I did not knuckle test it when it was first opened so I have no comparison.
Muth, to my mind, a fairer/more informative test would be to vape just a bit of straight PG on a clean, freshly wicked, atty. Or, even better yet; mix up a small (5mL should be ample) recipe you are very familiar with, and vape that. If you can identify a displeasing difference in the mix, from what you are used to; then go searching for alternative suppliers.
