I saw the lung doctor's PA today after doing full breathing tests and blood oxygen study where they take blood out of your wrist. I passed both with flying colors after vaping for 1 1/2 years only to get a lecture about how vaping is like inhaling "something close to jet fuel". So I listened to this and had one question - if I am vaping something so harmful then why are my tests so good? She said "I don't know".

Oh well, back to vaping my creation from last night.

    Somewhere between here and there
My doctor used to try to lecture me on vaping when I’d go in for a physical or something. I explained to him how I felt so much better than when I was smoking and was able to exercise more. He just shook his head. He was never mean about it but would like to have had me quit. He retired a year or so ago so now I just see whatever doctor is on the day I go.

It would be nice to not smoke or vape. But that is not realistic. People smoking for decades is proof of that. Non smokers will never understand the habit.

Hubs Dr was happy he switched to vaping. The rare cancer he died from had nothing to do with smoking or vaping.

You got that right. I tried for several years to explain to new vapers just how complex and multi-facetted the habit really is. It encompasses not only the physcial addition to nic(which is a small part compared to the others) its also social interactions, and behavioral patterns practiced over years of time. Also the seeing of the vapor(smoke) is important. Non smokers only recognize the nic part and nothing else and have absolutely no clue as to the complexities nor do they even wish to know. When the other parts of the addiction are finally recognized(probably never) only then true help will be had. The genius of ecigs is that all parts of the addiction are covered in 1 product. Really a miracle and the only true help we have ever had.

The non smokers don’t know what nicotine is. Except... Nicotine = Bad

When I told my primary doc I vaped she said "Good!". That lecture today from the lung pa was out of left field to me.
You probably gave the best answer(or question) you could for that moment. Sometimes we still hold our tongues especially if they have something that could hurt us with.=(in your case probably a needle since she was taking blood lol) Would not want to give her any opportunity for making that hurt worse than it normally would. IIRC - taking blood from ones wrist is so not without pain in and of itself.

    :)

No the blood was already drawn, and the girl that did was a complete buffoon. She inserts needle into the vein (or somewhere close) where it fills half way and stops. So she backs out part way and goes in again at a angle - and does this 3 times! Finally she was going to do it again and I said "No!" and she stopped. Thankfully there was enough for the machine to analyze because I was about to choke her - it hurt.

You sound like me. The place I go to(for normal testing lab) I have all warned the ladies there. You get 3 tries and if you can't get it by then too bad---you are done. And I won't allow a 4th try with the same person. I am sure at first they thought I was a class A B____, but they soon came to realize why I had to set limits.(rolling veins) Now they know me and there are only 2 that I will allow to take my blood. It has all worked out in the end and so far continues to.

I am between Olympia and Tacoma. Since there are no grocery stores, drug stores, etc. where we live, I have the option to go north or south when I need to shop. This is an odd little town, but good for people stationed at JBLM. I will be back in Virginia permanently in 3 more months!!!!!

    Sounds like Dupont :)

My PCP was skeptical for a couple of years, but has since put me down as non-smoker, although it really should be ex, for accuracy in the record. Either he did some actual reading of actual research, or just kept seeing health improvements over the years. Or both?

I actually think he did you a favor. I say this b/c although my PCP has me listed as a non-smoker also, my sisters doctor put her down as an ex smoker and now everything that happens or goes wrong with her health it is blamed on the fact that she smoked at one time. And she never smoked as much as me or for as long as I did. I almost think they use that so they don't have to find the real cause of whatever problem she has. Very frustrating for her.

Conversely, knowing prior medical / life style history can be a useful clue.

Yeah, could go either way. I did mention it to him. Once ;)

I have had my doctor for years even back when I smoked. So its in her files. Now maybe once every year or 2 she will ask about smoking. And my answer is no not since my quit date and i give her the date and she writes down non smoker. It also has occurred to me that it may also have to do with insurance and the costs of premiums even tho she has never indicated to me why she lists it that way. I am happy with it so I do not ask. LOL
    :)
