Hi there :)
Christmas is in the air, can you feel it? Of course, the one year we could go spend Christmas with family.. we can't because of covid (mainly) and also blizzards and work.
Neither of us is Polish or Catholic, but we've decided to adopt the Polish Christmas Eve dinner tradition (partly). It suits us well because the dinner, funnily enough, excludes meat, and it seems wild forest mushrooms is the star of the show. We've decided on having Uszka (mushroom dumplings), mushroom soup, cabbage rolls with.. mushrooms :D, a salad, and gingerbread cookies. We'll also follow several of the other traditions.
We just happen to have a plethora of dried gourmet mushrooms, so somehow this one fell in our laps. I was reading a review on a product of our mushroom supplier and they mentioned Uszka. I googled it and thus fell into a beautiful rabbit hole. We also live in a very Polish area, so it seems quite appropriate to appropriate their traditional meal, but I kinda doubt anyone does it around here.
I can feel it! Such a special time for us. My son may be 20 but he loves Christmas and acts like a kid. Every day he walks over to my Santa chalkboard announcing how many days ‘til Christmas. So cute! The house is dark from the overnight rain and all the twinkly lights are glowing. My balsam and cedar candle is burning. I just love it!

Today I’m headed to Mom’s to clean her bathroom and see if she needs me to do anything else before our family converges there tomorrow.

The rain brought very cold weather. Tomorrow’s high is only 37.

Today I also want to make a bottle of aged bourbon cream and dry burn and rewick my vape. I may pull another one out of storage.

Merry Christmas Eve everyone!

I definitely agree on waiting getting a mac with an M1 chip. You ever think about going to opposite direction and having a PC Hackintosh?
Many years ago I had a PC Hackintosh. Too fiddly for me. Gave it to my brother. I got it up and running fine but it would not work with my music applications, drivers or external interfaces. Too many timing issues with MIDI and audio sync. Currently I run Logic, Ableton Live and Digital Performer on a couple Mac's setup only for music. My other machines are setup for "everything" else.

The huge drawback for me with the M1 chip is that it cannot run Windows natively. I'll likely grab one of the newer Intel Mac's. The M1's can wait.

Good morning Folks. :D

My brother is coming over this morning for a short visit. He's also going to hit up a couple of the old timers bakeries while here for bakery they cannot get in Madison.

Was 54 here yesterday. This morning it was -1 with the wind chill. But, we did get a very light dusting of snow. That was a very pleasant surprise. Would have liked a couple inches but I'll settle for a little versus none.

We got a very light trickle of snow coming down now, not enough to stick. My only trip out today is up to the garage to pick up 10 gal of kerosene. My Christmas present finally arrived at the local PO this morning after 4 days shuttling around various dist centers in Indianapolis. Touch and go whether it gets out for delivery today. USPS is getting hit hard. Lots of people off sick. And apparently UPS and Fedex are at their limit so all their extra stuff gets dumped on USPS.

Well let me be the second, Happy Birthday!

Thanks :)

Happy birthday @kas122461 !!!!
So do you get a double whammy of gifts? :D
My brother's birthday is near Christmas and often I give him a double gift leaving him the choice to open it on bday, or Xmas.

It has varied over the years, for the most part birthday gifts were stopped in my family years ago, but for some reason they seem to still want to give be a birthday gift some time's. This year two of my brothers got me some meat from Omaha Steaks.

Thanks

I love the far side and had checks with it on them years ago. I haven’t seen any in a long time.
I found this one among others browsing imgur. The far side is one of my all time favorite comic strips. I have books of Far Side and Calvin and Hobbes.
