Morning all,

We went and got the wife's Kia Soul yesterday and it turns out the fix for the brakes was $1897.00, and we didn't have to pay it because we had a warranty. Oh man did we dodge a bullet there!

Well, that should keep you busy for a couple days!

On mine, the fan motor didn’t spin easy when I tried it by hand. As far as the capacitor goes, I have a capacitor tester on my fluke 87 multimeter. Sometimes they will bulge when they go bad so that you can see with the naked eye.

You could take a resistance reading on the motor leads but who knows what it’s supposed to be.

You can also do a simple check on a cap without a true cap tester (most low end DMMs don't have that), not of its value but only if it's shorted internally. Use the resistance function, with the cap disconnected, of course. Put the leads down, the resistance should go to near zero then start climbing. when it looks like it's stopped rising, reverse the leads. Should again drop to near zero then start rising again. Max reading means nothing, the moving action is what tells the story.

And yep, if the motor doesn't spin free, something awry with it, likely a bearing gone south.

Nice relaxed "trip" yesterday, doing our part to keep the publishing industry busy :)

@hittman How are you liking the sx mini?

I like it a lot. I'm afraid so much that I will be ordering extra coils and maybe another kit.

Sorry about that typo. I was barely awake when I posted that.

Yes, you can do a resistance check like that on capacitors but it's not always a good indication. The stuff I work on has a lot of electrolytic capacitors and the caps may check good like that but still be bad. I know not everyone is going to have a few $400 multimeters on hand like I do so it's a quick check. That will just tell you if the cap is shorted or open. Not if its capacitance is correct.

It's the only thing that has got my interest for a long time. Where did you get yours?

    Good morning folks,
I have done a lot today, managed to hit a rock solid with the lawnmower, and then it will be to order parts. I'll get to look at it tonight, definitely need some knives too.
Before the accident, I bought fuel !

Sourcemore sent it for review. They have the kits available but I couldn't find the coils on their site yet.
