Morning, mixers.

We did have a sunny day yesterday, but that's not in the cards anymore. But should only be rain here, snow higher up, so no complaints!

Hitt, you gargling a lot of warm salt water? Can help with the throat. (Maybe.)

My sore throat woke me at 2 and again at 6. I don’t remember the last time I had one this bad.
hitt, have you done a covid test? When I had covid in Aug. it felt like there were razor blades in my throat. I've had sinus drain that gave me a sore throat but nothing like it was then. I tested negative the first day, but positive the next. Hope you & the wife feel better soon.

I did gargle some salt water but am going to do it again soon. I’m pretty sure it’s not Covid due to the symptoms but we do have some home tests so may try one later. I took medicine at 2 when I woke up but am about due for more now. My nose is running more today so am guessing that the sinus drainage overnight irritated my throat even more.

@hittman sorry to hear about your sore throat.

Some thoughts... if gargling with warm saltwater doesn't help...

You might want to consider Cepacol extra strength sore throat lozenges or Robitussin max strength cough and sore throat. Per my oldest daughter either one will help to soothe your sore throat.

Also Tylenol 8 hour 650mg. Acetaminophen will help if you have sore throat pain. Take two tablets. Don't take Tylenol if you get the Robitussin because it has also acetaminophen (650mg).

If you do a home covid test do like WhiteHighlights suggested. Do one test and then a second 1-2 days later. Why? Because the home tests are not 100% accurate. And you can get a negative result if you test too early in the infection (when viral load is not as high).

And... if anyone needs, or wants, additional free covid tests... you can get 4 individual rapid antigen COVID-19 tests via USPS. The new ones they're shipping out are the Abbott BinaxNOW self tests. We received ours last week. I mean... ya know... FREE.

FWIW, the Abbott BinaxNOW covid tests (2 p/bx) will run from $19 at WallyMart to $24 at CVS.

The wife and I both did the Covid self tests and both turned up positive almost immediately.

    That sucks.

Per the FDA if you get a positive result from a home test kit the results are usually accurate. CDC guidance for covid.

You and your wife should consider contacting your doctor or visiting a clinic or hospital for a prescription of Paxlovid or Lagevrio.

"There are also two oral antiviral pills, Paxlovid and Lagevrio (molnupiravir), authorized for patients with mild-to-moderate COVID-19, with strong scientific evidence they can reduce the risk of progressing to severe disease, including hospitalization and death. If you have a positive COVID-19 test and symptoms, contact your health care provider to see if these treatment options are right for you."

    above is from...

Hoping for the best for both of you.

Also, they've extended the expiration dates on the previous home tests. If you have any of the other free tests check the dates here to see if they've been extended.

We were about to toss a few of ours until we found out their shelf lives were extended.

Yikes! No work for you for a while, son.

I hope it is gentle with both you and your wife, and fingers crossed everyone you've been in contact with is spared.

I was a little afraid that it could be, super sore throat has been one of the few symptoms that has been increasing with c'19 this winter.

As SMT says, antiviral medicine is something you should consider, you are over 50 and have several symptoms, the cure itself should be started as soon as possible, within 5 days I think I read in Norway.

Good thing you didn't go to the Christmas party you were invited to, but we didn't know that when we discussed the topic.

Went out for a meal at our favorite local fish restaurant today. It's my wife's birthday. She has always missed out a bit with it being so close to Christmas. The meal was free, we have enough meal cards to last us for months. People asked us what we wanted for Christmas and there really isn't anything we want so we said meal cards and got them from everyone.

I’m going to call my doctor and see what they say.
