I agree that the brown sugar does add a lot, but also find that it's one heck of a gunker!
I haven't experienced that. Although, I've only used it between 0.25% - 0.7% in mixes. I can't see using it any higher.

I tried salt once, a long time ago. I followed the instructions, someone recommended it to improve a recipe I was using. The salt taste was unpleasantly prominent though. Guess I was using too much but I never followed up on adjusting the amount. Plus I was using a brass rda and the salt caused a layer of green crud to build up on the inside of the rda which resulted in a really horrible taste. Never tried salt again.

Matt Topolski of Charlie Noble says to only use 1 drop of saline solution to 10ml.

Matt's notes on saline solution:

"Saline Solution – yeah. Salt makes things taste more like…well, more like whatever they are. There’s a reason that salt is added into almost every recipe I can think of, both savory and sweet. Occasionally, when you’re working on a bakery recipe that is almost there, but is just missing that little bit of 'pop', saline may be that missing bit of sparkle. Sterile saline solution, get it at a drugstore, or make your own with some distilled water. Just a touch, though. We don’t want to actually taste salt, we want to use it to enhance and accent the flavors that are already there."

Also can do without Brown Sugar.

With brown sugar it's all about what it adds to a mix. We don't want to taste the brown sugar (at least I don't). I mean, we wouldn't make Toll House Chocolate Chip Cookies without the brown sugar. They would not taste as intended vis-à-vis the actual recipe. In fact, they would likely taste bad.

IDK. Just my thoughts. :)

No doubt needs the brown sugar in real life.

@Zazie with thanks. I have a black tea recipe I’m liking.

    Boozy Tea
    FA Black Tea 2%
    FLV Milk and Honey 1%
    FLV Bourbon .7%
    VTA Bourbon 1.8%
You already have a Boozy Tea in the blog. I'll just add a note saying this is an entirely different beast.
