As a descendant of beef ranchers, to be vegetarian or vegan would be considered a mortal sin. My dad wouldn't even eat chicken.
I had some land in southern Arizona cattle country years ago out in the middle of nowhere, up a dirt road next to a huge cattle ranch. There was one restaurant a few miles away just set at the side of a country road. I dropped in one evening. The menu was seven types of steak, plus burger. The only thing you could get with the meat was fried mushrooms. The other customers were all actual cowboys, hats and boots and everything. I got burger and mushrooms.

It's a different world in cattle country.

Hats and boots are a common site here, even for those who don't work cattle. I used to live in a small town called Hereford. It smelled like it's name because there were feedlots nearby. Guys would come into the clinic, not only with hats and boots, but wearing spurs as well. Their real job was cowboy and they would ride horses, herding cattle.

... We all had jobs so switching from our parents meat eating ways was easy for us. By the time we were 20 we were vegetarian along with a little fish here and there.
Meat eater here, but a 'select' vegetarian at times. I worked with a hardcore vegetarian and he'd order 1 or 2 vegetarian things for meetings. I'd make sure to get at the veggie wraps or egg salad before him  Other than that, meat.

    Morning, mixers.

Still dry here, still guessing that the temps will stay in the high 70s, low 80s.

Time to gather more debris, as the lack of rain has led to early cutting back. Burn pile beginning to be a burn mountain, probably late September before it's safe to light.

Major storm going on here. And I had a cold shower this morning. Plumbers are on their way. The heater is in the corner of a small cramped laundry room. Since it was installed we got a new furnace so the heater is now stuck behind a mess of gas pipes and exhaust pipes from the furnace. Getting the heater out will be a major deal. Probably have to cut a hole in the wall. Think I'm going to get a continuous flow heater rather than another tank to avoid this problem in the future. Second plumbing job in a week.

    slumgullion

    slŭm-gŭl′yən

    noun

    1. A watery meat stew.
    2. Offal or refuse of fish of any kind; also, the watery refuse, mixed with blood and oil, which drains from blubber.
    3. A cheap drink.
    The second sounds especially good.
