    Whoa...not cool
When taking it apart you should be able to unscrew the bottom pice to pull the coil for changing it. That bottom piece won't unscrew and you end up taking the whole bottom section out including the piece the coil goes into. All that's left is an empty tank.

In other words you end up pulling the whole guts out of the tank.

    Somewhere between here and there
Good evening. Work was ok until this afternoon when I pulled one of my least favorite machines into the shop to work on. It had a catastrophic failure and is under warranty so I’m going to have to spend 3-4 hours rebuilding it after the parts are received. Not looking forward to it.

Yes, this is the third one I’ve had like this where the rotor shaft for the generator broke and left part of it on the engine shaft. I have to disconnect all wiring on the engine and the stator for the generator, pull the fuel tank and the support for it, then take off the stator and try to get the broken piece of the engine shaft. It’s about two hours to get it apart and a couple more at least to reassemble it and reconnect all the wiring. The control cabinet sits directly above the stator so it has to be completely removed.

Yup, sounds like a real pain.

Sounds like a bad design. I used to really hate working on the mowers at work. It wasn't really my job, but had to be done. I was real glad when they subbed out the mowing.
