Went to the christening today. Turned out the plan got changed slightly. The church uses a priest who runs communions at multiple churches each day and he was supposed to do the christening before the service. But he was running late so the christening was changed to after the service. That meant their regular priest who was also running late would arrive in time to do the christening. They had been disappointed that their regular guy wasn't going to do it.
I didn't want to go through an hour of sitting and standing and kneeling so I went outside to hang out in the nice weather and vape. A pleasant 72 which was nice after the last couple of weeks. Turned out I got to meet the priest. He turned up halfway through the communion and stopped to chat with me for a few minutes. Really pleasant guy. He didn't say anything about me vaping outside the church doors. I told him what I was there for and he didn't even ask why I was passing on the communion service.
Christenings have changed since the last time I went to one, which was about 50 years ago. They used to give the poor babies a good dunking and they were always screaming. Today he took a little water in a small flat dish and sprinkled a few drops on the kid's forehead with his fingers. The kid just lay there and smiled.
