July 4th has changed round here. 15 years ago there used to be a lot of gunfire. Haven't heard them for years. One time a large family party got drunk and were out in the street shooting and hollering. Several neighbors called it in and the cops showed up. Some folks got taken away and charged. After that shooting started to fade away.

There used to be a big firework display at a golf course on the other side of the river. Everyone took their chairs out to the levee and got a perfect view. As of this year that is gone. And fireworks used to be fun, now it's almost all big bang type stuff.

My favorite when I was a kid was catherine wheels. Spiral shaped things, you nailed them to a tree and they spun round really fast throwing out sparks. Not sure they exist anymore.

The steps are gone. I was going to work on my everlasting battle with weeds and rocks, but it's raining today, so I'm vaping and drinking hot tea.

I guess the weeds and rocks will have to wait.

I got about an hour into my landscaping project and it started pouring rain. That might be the end of it for the day.

Just finished shredding the pork shoulder. It came out pretty good for pulled pork sandwiches for dinner a little later.

I was always partial to sparklers. I liked the way they looked and the way they smelled.

The old ones on the wire were good. They burned hot and bright. They've changed the formula and use wooden sticks. These aren't as good.

I used to spend a lot on fireworks when the kids lived at home. The last several years I could care less about fireworks. If I want to watch them then I just need to walk out my front door. A lot of neighbors do them.

very warm and muggy here...........
oh well

just one patch of grass had a large cluster of dew drops this morning...........

photo above is more zoomed in, look at all the super tiny ones.........
so cool, yours truly actually sat there for quite a bit just taking it all in...........
and i got right on down there to have a good look up close........

saw one ant actually walk on and over the dew drops, and me, being me, was totally amazed at that...... i get off on all the little things in life that most aren't even aware of...........
