Good evening. Bad day at work and I’m glad it’s over. I’m off until Tuesday to work on the fence. I’m just going to rest tonight and start on the fence tomorrow.

Had to cut down some big old boxwood bushes, wife doesn't like them anymore. She wants to replace them with different bushes. Got them cut down to 6 inches or so with the reciprocating saw last week. Still had to remove the stumps so I started on that today.

They are a major pain to remove. They form a solid wood stump underground, about 8 inches across and 8 inches deep. From that they send out half a dozen big horizontal roots about 1" diameter or bigger. You have to locate and expose each one and cut it with the reciprocating saw. But the stump also sends out a thick mass of tiny roots which make it a major pain to dig out the soil and expose the big roots.

There are 4, got two of them out today and it took 3 hours. Too knackered to move now.

Do you have help coming? Hope so.
My oldest daughter offered to come and help in the morning and the youngest offered to help in the afternoon. It’s supposed to be pretty hot tomorrow so I’m not sure how much I’m going to do in the afternoon.

Hopefully you can get enough done early so you can rest up later.

Sounds like a lot of work to me.

We had a big spruce tree that died a year or so ago. I drilled holes in the stump and let it sit for weeks. It really didn’t do much of anything so I dug around it and cut the roots with a sawzall. It was quite the job. I can sympathize with what you’re dealing with.

When I log into the computer my first job every day is to check the APOD astronomy picture of the day. Been doing that forever, maybe 20 years. Last week it stopped updating, just found out why.

Due to the lapse in federal government funding, NASA is not updating this website. We sincerely regret this inconvenience.

    Astronomy Picture of the Day

Don't know if it's the funding cuts, apparently their budget has been cut in half or something. But it might just be to do with the shutdown.

I have a huge folder full of my favorites which I use for background on the PC screen. It changes every 30 minutes.

So check this out, might be the last one they ever put up.
