Pandora helps to sort through the crap in the mainstream market and find the few gems.

This

I've used Pandora for a long time now, and I think its biggest strength is that indie and lesser known acts get a lot of cycles in their rotation. Though, a lot of that is due to their licensing agreements, I am sure... it's a lot cheaper to run the no names than the top artists.

i heard that :glare:

and there is still a lot of good music around. it's just now more obscure and you have to search it out. you won't find much on commercial radio stations, that's for sure.

I live in the middle of freaking nowhere, I mean how many times per week does a person really need to hear Smoke on the Water?

that's why i got XM radio. we are limited on FM to top 40 and classic rock. i was so sick of hearing the same 3 songs by journey, stix, reo speedwagon, foreigner, rush, eagles, yada yada yada. between XM and internet radio, i have discovered a plethora of eclectic, cool, obscure, cool music i never knew existed. :)

I had Siruis (sp?) for 6 months free when I bought my truck, but there was no way I would pay that price to continue. I also read they are one of the worst companies for continuing to charge your credit card after you cancel. What still strikes me as weird is that while it played just fine during the 6 months, to continue using the service you have to get another device. Not one sales rep I talked to could clearly explain why it worked one day, but wouldn't work the next. They also wouldn't let me just subscribe to the 4 channels I liked while offering al la carte packages for others. It's been a year and they are still sending me mail.

well the receiver was in my car when i bought it, so i never had to buy any devices. i also followed a friends advice and negotiated a lower price than they quoted me. and i don't pay with a credit card. i never have a problem getting reception unless i am under something blocking the signal.

I dunno much about sirius except I bought the lifetime subscription for my bmw back in '07 for $500 and haven't been bothered since. I think I clocked more time with the mp3 player than radio, and with the addition of podcasts - mp3 players can give you that talk-radio experience without the you know what. I think vapetv has one, too. But I haven't checked it out.

I like to listen to this show Episode archive | The Tech Guy makes me feel geeky but keep in mind, I also have issues of Consumer Reports in the bathroom with my other reading material. Some folks create, others consume.
