i heard that :glare:

and there is still a lot of good music around. it's just now more obscure and you have to search it out. you won't find much on commercial radio stations, that's for sure.

This is why Music Died. Because FM Radio Died.

FM was taken over by Mega Companies like Sony who felt they knew what the "Kids" wanted to hear.

Back in the Day, where I grew up, there was KLOS, KEZY, KMET and KROC. All of them played Covers of course. But All of them had Evening Shows where Local Bands could send in Demo Tapes. DJ's and Program Directors had some say in the Playlist choice.

You could get your song on the air and if the Switchboard light up wanting to know who was that Band, Record Labels would seek you out. Bands could get some gear and get booked into Small Venues. A band could get known and if they were Popular, could get a Record Deal.

But that all Changed. Recorded Companies moved away from Helping Local Bands getting started. And focused on just Finding the Next Super Mega Group. The DJ's and Program Directors no longer had much say in what could be played on FM Radio. That was decided by some Company Suit sitting in an Office.

So Rock n' Roll died because New Bands that the "Kids" wanted to hear couldn't take the Next Step with Gear and Venue Booking.

i agree with most of what you said, mr. zoid. i don't remember much about they heyday of FM radio, but i still maintain that there has always been and still is a niche market for independent music, just as there is in film. small labels abound, and some bands even have there own labels. the internet is instrumental in a lot of music getting heard that 20 years ago would not have been. just sayin...its not all gloom and doom on the music scene. ok? :)

Sigh...I have Rush 2112 on LP and Bat Out of Hell (which, coincidentally, was the first CD I ever purchased when they first came out)...I'm going to have to go dig out the record player.

Pretty sure Dad had a ton of 8 tracks at one time...wonder what happened to them? Hmm....

good chance they are here.....

8 tracks? Yes remember how they used to cut out in the middle of a song, change track and continue? I remember the Police(sting) was one of my faves. And when listening to some of the eary stuff on CD I still expect the song to fade out.

And 8 track players in the car. "How convenient" My first boyfriend stole my Van Hallen 8 track! I only remember him for that.

I think I have some 8 tracks in a box somewhere, foghat, mountain and the like. My dad was into it too. His favorite was Helen Reddy after he saw her in concert. She was woman and he heard her roar supposedly. My mom hated that…

Haven't looked at my LPs in a while since converting everything digital. Someday them and my comic books might be worth something.

I like internet radio, listening all day, Rock-n-Bolz out of France, NPR from different cities, Europe, South America, etc. I have found new music I like, and since purchased. Was really excited to find the new Absynthe Minded CD in a record store in Belgium last year for example.

Basically trying to avoid anything owned by clear channel communications. I know a couple radio jocks who lost their jobs because of CCC automation some 10 years ago. They are now Wedding DJs…

I'm pretty much a classical fan these days.

It keeps me off of tobacco

I started out with Elvis Presley, the Beach Boys, then the Beatles, Rolling Stones, Emerson Lake and Palmer, Yes, Black Sabbath, et al. One day on a trip with my parents, my dad was flipping through the AM radio to find his favorite country western station. He dialed past a classical music station and I asked him to go back to it. It led me to love classical and played french horn through high school. I still play my french horn to this day.

I grew up in a musical house, momma really did have a squeeze box and daddy had to sleep on the couch a couple nights because of that Helen Reddy thing I mentioned a couple posts up, just kidding of course. They played all the time though, mostly ragtime and stuff like that. When I was in school I joined in playing baritone or bass. Dad did play occasionally at clubs and stuff.

This is what I woke up to just about every Saturday.

Note the pack of smokes on the table? That didn't end well for either of them.

LMAO. Oh wow, mama really did have a squeeze box. I thought that was a complete joke until I saw the pic. Nice Who reference.
