I'm right there with you, Lissa. I have four mods, a Provari, a Vamo, a Segelei ZMax, and an iTaste SVD, but I still love using my little Volts. I use 'em every day. I love my Volts so much I actually took a picture of myself holding one and sent it to Smokeless Image to get myself a free battery!

Shoot, I still love and use my Volts! I keep them in a little eGo case (I know, blasphemy!) with my car/USB charger and a little carto case with 5 different flavored cartos. Heck, sometimes I have 2 cartos (one on each Volt) AND my 5-pack case in there. Yes, I have flavor ADD haha. I never have to worry about forgetting something when I leave home ... it's always in my purse and I charge them every weekend since I'm a pretty casual vaper.

I also like VV, so at home I use my iTaste VV that was PIF'd to me by a friend, an AnyVape CVI (my birthday gift to me, lol), and a Zmax v2 from the classies with Protanks and Vivis. A lot of my local vape group talks about RBAs, RDAs, mechanicals, "chasing the vape", etc. My eyes glaze over.

Now, if ya wanna talk flavorz ... I'm ALL about the flavorz!

Are these B&M's dedicated solely to vaping, or are they just smoke shops/head shops with a little side selection of e-cigs? There's only one dedicated B&M in Dayton, Ohio, where I live now, but almost every local smoke shop/head shop carries little ego clones and bottles of Chinese Tsunami juice now.

Six on the Cape and probably around 10 in the rest of Lee County atm :) I've been on this coast since 88 and a lot has changed in that time. You wouldn't recognize Cape Coral. FMB is FMB.

Full on vape shops. I live about an hour south of there in Naples, and there's a bunch here too.

I didn't wanted to sound like a snob! I have a zmax ($50) some evods and my DIY juice ( 10 cents a day) I don't have a high end mod or atomizer, but I'm looking to get a better experience of vaping and trying to learn everything about this new hobby, and for me the flavor, time and variety is miles above smoking a cigarette. as some posts (buried under a taco wave) some here are about the quitting cigarettes and some of us are here for more, nothing wrong with any side

Whatever keeps you off the analogs.

When 80% of the ECF classifieds are for high end RBA's and expensive mods, a new ECF member, heck even an experienced vaper, can easily feel inferior while using perfectly good equipment that's serving their needs. Some new vapers are blowing their budgets and trying to build sub-ohm devices without the wherewithal to do either. The elitism that's growing in the vaping community is contrary to the greater good ECF fosters, in my opinion.

Most of us are just one bad day away from slowly killing ourselves with cigarettes again. What we have in common is simply that we are former smokers, and a regular reminder of that fact is necessary.

To be honest... well, where to begin.

Several members along with myself have been pondering where all this sub-ohm fetishism has come from. And why so suddenly? It seems to be a sudden onslaught covering the last six months, at best. And the "desire" is escalating. It's not a fascination with a particular mod or a specific atty. It's becoming practically a cult with no head. Well, certainly not much showing for brains a lot of the time.

Personally I don't get it. I don't get it on so many levels. I'm sitting here vaping on a 1.8 ohm device and I don't even like a device that low. Things start getting harsh, you have to keep the vape shorter to prevent that from getting out of hand, and I lose flavor the lower I go. I can taste the difference between 1.8 and even 2.2 ohms. 2.2 or GASP even 2.4 ohms gives me more flavor. But gee whizzers! I sure do blow a ton of vapor off that LR sucker. That thing farts like a mack truck with a blown gasket head! I feel like more of a man now!

Really?

Is that what's really going on here? A juvenile game of my thingee is bigger than your thingee? "Watch this! I can blow so much vape it sucks the oxgen out of the room and I pass out! Ha!" Uh - thank you but I'll pass on the videos. That might be one explanation. There sure does seem to be a scent of JackAss bravado running through the SLR chatter with no point of substance behind it.

And I know I have to tread lightly on this one, lest a certain Diesel kill the entire post. But when you watch a guy on You Tube, giggling like one of those people who inhales stuff that makes you giggle, making a "sandwich" by toasting postage stamp sized pieces of bread on what looks like a quad coil on a Sigelei mech mod, and he is really impressed with himself, and giggling... Dude! Get a life! Get un-stupid! Quit vaping things in that quad coil mech mod that drive you to crave a cheese sandwich made on a quad coil mech mod!

And that's my point of concern. Is part of this rush to SLR devices being driven by, am I allowed to say?, the crowd vaping very little nicotine and a hell of a lot of "other." We know that behavior is out there. Has any of it, the "how do I get there" part, started to infiltrate ECF?

I keep hearing SLR is "better." But better than what? How exactly? If we wanted to get away from smoking then what's the point of creating devices that try to bring it all back again? Sure the tobacco is gone. But is this nothing but a chase after a practically heart stopping nicotine rush from a grossly unnecessary experience?

Then there's that whole other safety matter. The battery safety and whatnot.

Call it what you want. Zero ohms is a short across a battery. Building 0.25 ohm coils isn't leaving much margin for failure. I've been meaning to put this to "the powers that be" that the RBA/RDA forum sticky needs a rewrite, if most of this potential danger info is even there at all. Stickies won't stop stupid from happening but I am getting concerned when I see posts in the New Member Forum and the first topic they jump on is building SLR attys. Where is this crowd coming from as new members? (See 'the crowd vaping "other."') And what happens to the Newbies who post "I so wanna try this. I'm a complete idiot with tools but..." I'm hearing a lot of desire and not much in the way of technical interest or vaping experience to back it up.

A lot of us guide the Newbies with information about how to select their first e-cig, problems with transitioning from smoking etc. But Newbie threads asking for, and giving advice about, building SLR devices? Something seems to be going very wrong here.

Build 'em if you must. But I'm not seeing a lot of people expressing a legitimate reason, a legitimate need for SLR, other than showing off on YouTube. And no - that's not legitimate. Has anyone stepped forward yet and declared "If I can't have an SLR atty I will start smoking again."

Really?

I'm going to try as hard as possible not to be rude here, but it's going to be difficult.

I'm frankly getting fed up with your type of attitude. You don't understand why people vape such low resistance devices? Then do some RESEARCH! The whys and hows are posted ALL OVER in the rebuildable section. If you don't care to actually put any effort into learning about something, then don't comment on it. If it's important enough for you to open your mouth, it should be important enough to put some effort into researching.

A little taste of the types of ignorant comments I'm getting sick of:

Well, certainly not much showing for brains a lot of the time

Yeah, not much brains. The guys that actually put effort into learning the science behind vaping are the brainless ones. Not the ones that need a chart to tell them which carto to use on their eGo battery.

I feel like more of a man now!

Yes, because people's self image is inversely proportional to the resistance of their coils. THAT makes sense.

A juvenile game of my thingee is bigger than your thingee?

Possibly the most cliche argument ever on the internet. People are doing things you don't understand so they must be involved in some silly macho game. Of course.

There sure does seem to be a scent of JackAss bravado running through the SLR chatter with no point of substance behind it.

No point and substance... alright, what do you consider substance? Which ego battery is more pretty?

But I'm not seeing a lot of people expressing a legitimate reason, a legitimate need

What business is it of yours what people's vaping preferences are? I don't see a lot of need for people to use clearos, I think they are terrible delivery devices. People should stop using clearos, I think it's some silly juvenile fad. Vaping is NOT a need for ANYBODY. If we had some self control we wouldn't need vaping to help us quit smoking. Nothing in vaping is a need, it's a luxury, and judging where people draw the line of "enough" is pointless and frankly none of your damn business.

I try to be as friendly and helpful as possible on these forums, but this is just getting ridiculous. I'm sorry if I sound harsh, but I'm not going to try and be a nice guy in the face of such pure arrogance. You are judging what you do not understand. You bring up how your low rez stuff starts tasting harsh.... that shows your knowledge of sub ohm vaping is extremely limited if it exists at all. But of course you have to mock something you don't understand. It's not something you are doing, so it must be silly or bad. If you put even the smallest amount of effort into learning about such things you'd realize that subohm vapers use thicker wire, which dramatically increases surface area. This means you don't burn juice due to an overheated coil.

I don't demand that everybody know, love, and want subohm vaping. But if you don't care enough to actually research it, then you have no room to judge it. The number of ignorant people going around trying to belittle subohm vapers is getting out of hand.

Yet, you're guilty of the very same behavior that you just ranted about. Flying off the handle rather than explaining WHY just reinforces the belief that there's really not a valid reason. At least Rickajho gave some pretty compelling reasons as to why he feels the way he does.

If you think that's flying off the handle you must have a pretty peaceful life.

He doesn't get it, he admitted to it, yet feels the need to cast judgement and mock people. That's what I'm ranting about. If he wants to make a thread in the appropriate section and truly ask why people are into sub ohm vaping, I'd be happy to participate. But that thread has already been made... several times. And answered, several times. The information is out in the open available to all, he refuses to partake of this information, that's his choice. It's not my job to ram the information down his throat.

Darwin will settle it. It's either a problem, or it isn't. We'll see.

I don't debate anyone's RIGHT to SLR.

I don't see a reason for deliberately making a circuit that inefficient and stressed when there's a lot of other options that work well that are higher ohms. However, to each their own. If you really feel it is so much better, just be safe and do your research and make sure your mod is well vented.

Whatever keeps you off analogs. ;)

It's a trap! I saw that group of sub ohmers at the airport handing out coils then asking for a donation. It's a scam to feed this guys juice addiction and to pay for his fancy hat.

I too.. am not sure where to begin.

I have been pondering why people make pseudo-informed posts like this in an attempt to educate and/or chastise people for something they obviously don't understand themselves. Is it for attention? You want to have the loudest most obnoxious voice in the room? Is it to rationalize your fear of the unknown so you can feel like you are a better person because you prefer higher resistance vaping with a regulated device?

You don't get it? Have you tried it? If not then what makes you think you are in any way qualified to say a word on the subject much less go around chastising and belittling people for something you "don't get"?

I don't get why people like vaping 2+ohm coils, but I'd never make fun of someone for it.

Sub ohm/mechanical vaping is not inherently dangerous if done right. Sub ohm/mechanical vaping is not synonymous with blowing giant clouds.

I vape .6 - .7ohm coils and I use batteries rated for 16a continuous draw. 16a at 4.1v is .26ohm............. WAYYYYY lower than I enjoy and my .7ohm coils are WELLLLLLLL within the rated safety limits of my batteries (AW IMR 1600mAh). I prefer mechanical vaping for a few reasons.. The flavors and richness of the vapor. I do not like the rattlesnake effect of the 33hz chipsets. I had a ProVari.. real nice device but even at 800mhz I just don't like it. I prefer feeding a clean straight stream of DC energy through my coil, at about 24w. I am a .6 - .7ohm vaper who has made a few YouTube videos and I plan to make more. I prefer sub ohm vaping but I do not glorify it nor will I ever make a "showing off my cloud" video... that's just not why I, and many many other sub ohm coil users, do it.

Also.. legislation is coming.. it's only a matter of time. Vaping hardware will be taxed or worse. If one of my mechs ever breaks I can go out into my garage and fix it. If I can't fix it I will make a new one. If the board in your regulated device fries can you go into your garage and fix it or would you have to order a new one?

And the grilled cheese sandwich.... I am truly sad for you that you were incapable of seeing the tremendous humor in that video. That's what happens when you find your true final vape.. the one that needs no more experimentation because you are tickled pink with it.. so you get bored and decide to have some fun. Sorry you missed out on some good lols.. cause that was funny.

And here again you reveal your ignorance.. the "sigelei cooktop" coil was a 1ohm single coil. No sub ohm.. no multi coils, and I had a galvanized bucket and a fire extinguisher at the ready just in case something unexpected happened. Although, because I have done literally MONTHS of reading and research as I have walked along the path towards my ultimate vape I had very good reason to suspect nothing bad would happen.. and guess what.. it didn't.

Loosen your corset a bit and do some reading before you try and go educate and insult people for doing something you don't understand.
