Before I go break down all my current builds, let me take a quick poll here.. What size coils is everyone using successfully?!

Well considering I don't know to let go of the button before I stop pulling...

I use between 2.5 and 3.0 mm ID. I try to match the diameter of the wick hole in my attys. For the dripper I use 2 - 2.5 mm ID just cause I have the spindle handy.

I don't understand what a smaller coil does for you except make the coil longer.

:2c:

PS - I have recently switched to a spaced coil apposed to all smunched together.

Dusty I use a 1/16th coil at 0.5 ohms and I use about 25-50% more Rayon than if I was using cotton(CVS sterile rolled cotton) and have had nothing but stellar results. The Rayon is really tight in the coil until I stretch it like JeremyR and then it is just "squeaky" snug.

Edit: Micro coil by the way

Thanks BL! All my builds are 3/32 micros, 28g, at 1.5 - 1.7ohms. I normally run them at between 10 and 12W. All are KFL's.

Never had an issue with cotton, and some of my NETs seem to be doing fine. It's the gunkier ones that I can't seem to make through a ml or two. The cleaner NETs, I've gone a week with one of them, approximately 12ml of liquid through it.

I'm using a 3/32 coil at 1.6 ohms on a Provari, running about 12.5 watts. Airflow is pretty open, had to install the spacer under the screw of the Erkonigin to get some room to bring the airflow out a bit more.

See, you're more of less where I'm at. How's your performance going?!

Still fighting to find the right amount and setup... but it's certainly no worse than I was getting on my R91. Opening up the airflow seems to have helped some with the gunking, and I think I was feeding too *much* liquid...the hiss/gurgle was deeper/muted.

Did I read somebody a few pages ago saying that they needed to UP their power after they switched to Rayon?! Could that be a potential issue here? Should I try MOAR POWER?!

Could it be that I'm not using up the juice that has wicked to the coil, and it is therefore gunking/burning on there?!!

I have found with Rayon that it is almost easier to use way too much then stretch it while sliding through the coil. This seems to result in just the right thickness inside the coil every time for me. The more you stretch it while sliding back and forth, the thinner and thinner it gets inside the coil. I stop stretching it once it no longer "bunches up" while sliding back and forth if that makes sense.

I'm almost certain I have the thickness and technique right, which is why it's bothering me. I've upped the power of the one I had set at 10W to 12.5W, and it almost seems to be behaving itself. Weird!

I'm going to have to try this for a while to see if I get the slight burnt taste back..

I am sure others have said it but just recently I posted that I had to up the power typically 2 watts above what I was using with cotton or silica.

I found at the lower power levels the flavor was down a smidge and vapor trail was modest. When I increased the power ! poof ! everything fell back into place except it took a little to get used to the Nic buzz. ;)

Ya know I was thinking (I know dangerous) that maybe the Rayon sucks up the PG with the flavor and doesn't want to release it. Maybe the extra heat is what it takes to force it back out of the cellulous structure and back into the vapor stream.

Sunuva.. both the tanks that I had earmarked for re-wicking are now tasting normal again at 12.5 instead of at 10W..

Dusty,

I ran at 7 watts since you posted the first "coil size" post. It was ok but every thing was weak i.e. taste, vapor.

Just as I got the notice of your face-palm post I had gone back to 9.5 watts and everything returned to Nirvana.

That was on my Kayfun 3.1

I just noticed that you are a bit higher in power but you are using heavier wire. I use 30 GA in a slightly spaced coil.

Nice!! I used to vape in the 8W range with my Protanks and similar devices. When I made the move to KFL's and microcoils I found that 10W was my sweet spot. Now it looks like it'll be closer to 12W, thanks to Rayon..

Dusty, I really think that the rayon absorption is so high that you just have to find the right size coil and power level that will drive out the juice as vapor and not burn the juice or wick.

Albeit I have found it pretty hard to burn a wet rayon wick. I can with HHV Legend build up a lot of crud on the coil and when I pull the wick it is cruddy under the coil. Run the wick under a little warm water and the wick is only slightly tanned under the coil and the rest is pure white.

I am sure that if I had left the wick in and just brushed off the coil and rinsed the coil/wick it would have been good for another 30 ml.
