What amount causes you to taste the rayon for the first few hits? I've been using rayon for a while thanks to this thread and just recently started running into wicking issues. I'll do a new build or have one already and the taste and performance is incredible, then I notice discoloration so I reckon I have to rewick it or my coil gets gunked up, so I dry burn and rewick and I soak the wick and try to wait a couple minutes and then boom faceful of weird rayon-y taste usually I try to power thru it for an hour or two and the flavors okay but that first wick experience is always fleeting.

And lately I've started making single twisted micro's in my holmes and magma and I've been trying to add less and less wick to the point my wicks are so loose trying to adjust one side freely moves the other side as well, maybe I need to try getting the wicks thicker? Or maybe I'm just in a bad wicking rut

Too much density is the most common problem, or a Hot leg or hot spot/short in the coil.

I always start with a thick piece and adjust size as i go.. I think you need to do the stretching I do; far to size, close by the coil to tighten the rayon so you can pull it through. Listen for a squeek noise, then pull it even on both sides.

The wick should be snug, just shy of tasting the rayon. See how big the wick in amds pic looks? Shoot for it.

Best thing to do if you've put too much in and are tasting it on a fresh build; Is to separate a small section with a needle and pull it out. I usually start with a piece that looks about the size of a 1/16 bit or slightly smaller.. You can do this little by little reducing amounts till the taste is gone, now you have the correct density.

Beautiful!
I was wondering how you got that so perfect! Looks like you welded round legs on. Am I seeing that correctly?

Yes, sir I did. Flat ribbon Kanthal and Pure Nickel round wire.

Jeremy,

Just wanted to thank you once again, I finally came up with some stainless mesh yesterday for the Flash-e clone I got from focal. My one & only local B&M doesn't carry mesh but one of the guys gave me a sheet from his private stock, shout out to the great guys from Vapor King (not kings) in the Vestal NY store. Thanks to your posts and pics Jeremy you took me right to success on my first try, now I see why you like this atty so much! When Jeremy posts I listen. You steered me right on the rayon, the Plume Veil and now the Flash-e, thanks bro!
:toast:

Gotta ask, have you tried the Rose? I got one of those too and I'm so impressed with the flavor from it. It has a tight draw by design but the flavor, omg! I usually would get the drills out and open up a tight atty but I'm reluctant in this case because I'm afraid I ruin the flavor. Its not something I would vape on all day, but for that special juice you save for a treat, the Rose would pair up nicely. :)

How do you guys wick your RDAs with rayon? I run all mine in single coil mode. Should I fill up the side where the other coil would go in dual coil mode with rayon? I've tried this with cotton and the problem is the coil would start burning even while the cotton on the other side was saturated with juice, because it wouldn't wick properly. Would rayon have this problem?

All my drippers: Atomic, Magma, Veritas, Quasar, Origen V2; I run a single, horizontal coil. I run the tails just long enough to reach the bottom, or close to the bottom, of the deck. I trim the tails at a slant from the end to the coil, with the tip at a point, and take off about 50-70% of the material.

For my drippers that have the coil close to the deck like the IGO-S, Trident, ERA (Squid), and A6 I still trim the tails the same, laying across the deck a little bit.

I use this wicking method with both rayon and KGD cotton with great results. No extra wicking material is needed, just enough to transfer the juice straight to the coil.

Bang on, this is exactly how I drip and drive. Occasionally I do run parallel single though.
