That's how it is with me too, but I have no theories. Before it hasn't been a problem (except in my gennies), but lately, my liquid's been looking like espresso after awhile, even in my Orchid, and I can't figure out what I'm doing differently. Hmm....maybe it's the juice... lemme try a different mix...I've vaped this mix before though.

Holman, the way I thin my tails is comb through them with a pin until I get it as thin as I want, then trim to the right length. I pinch at the coil to not thin that part down though, or sometimes I'd just thin ±half of the tails and cut the rest to a nub. Sometimes though, the problem I have with thinning is that it wicks too well and my coil gets too juicy. In my Orchid, I've been doing what AMD does on his KFs: short, stubby tails underneath with a thin combover over the ends.

I'd love to see a pic of the funky cat! :)

Cat first; I had my phone with me but I was so fascinated with the cat I never gave it a thought. Next time I am over there I will definitely get a photo.

By the way I was going to mention my gennies almost always did the back flush sometimes with varying degrees but pretty reliable and they did it with silica, cotton and rayon.

Comb-thru with a pin sounds like something the "Village People" would say. If any of my Macho buds read this I'll never convince them to try vaping. :D But I have to rebuild my new Lemo and I will try the "Comb-Thru" (that just sounds so wrong).

PS - If I get the Cat-Lion pics I'll post them. It is one of the most interesting looking cats I have ever seen and it has the personality of a Poodle (no I was not drinking or using) - "Go-Figure"

Oh no! Then they'd look like this:

Now, tell me again what causes backflow (liquid darkening) and how to avoid it. Been getting a lot of that lately.

That pic should be on every page of this thread :)

I've been getting a lot of backflow in my K4 and I'm sure it's because I have to run thick wick-tails to keep the damn thing wicking properly. I'm lucky if I get 30ml per wick job! (extremely irritated with this tank) None of my other tanks darken the wick/juice like this K4 does, but none of my other tanks have thick wick-tails: I usually thin them to the point of transparency! I know, that's not exactly a scientific study, but it's enough to point a finger.

Did I mention how incredible the flavor is when the K4 is clean?

FWIW my KFv4 darkened the juice some but only when I was using a single coil. It seems the two pieces of wick I used to block the unused juice channels was the culprit- they would be black when I pulled it apart while the wick in the coil was normal. Since using dual coils I've not had any more problems.

??? I use my Orchids as single coils. I do not block or in any other way interfere with the functioning of all four channels. Instead, I split both ends of the wick. lead the half-wicks between the posts, and thus use all four channels. No need to thin the wicks for this setup. I don not get darkened wicks unless I run it too hot, or don't notice it has gone empty on me. No problem with darkening of juices-- although most of them are not very sweet.

I am usually at ten watts on a 1.8Ω coil

Ah, I've been doing that in my Orchid!

That was the one that stumped me the most. Never had a problem with that one before.

I was doing that for awhile too, but occasionally got annoying leaks from the unblocked air hole (made the tails too skinny). But might give it another go...

RAYON MAN LoL! , Did you get the memo about all the nasty stuff that's in rayon and how it melts? That's what you look like after you vape with rayon for some time.

I would rather have minor leaks than burned juice. Just blow on it and use a tissue to catch the extra. Maybe a bit of wicking laid at the top of the airhole? I do try to put some under the coil.

Part of my 12 step learnin' 20 years ago was about the OCD things that I did and shouldn't do. I toss out every bit of the cut offs. I know I still have well over 400 feet left. If I tossed a foot a day it would take me over a year. And I could buy another box for the price of 2 packs of smokes.

Paul,

I love your philosophy now if I could just beat the OCD part I be good to go. :D

Haha... Well then I'm looking a lot like King Kong these days then.. Every day I just keep getting bigger and bigger.

I did find a use for a little of those trimmings when I overcut the tails in a Fogger V6. Used a tiny bit in each wick channel and it's "golden" now.

There's a fogger v6 now.. Geez missed that one

Sitting down, facing forward.
Yup, top fill, four posts, holes through the posts for the coils, larger chimney for more coil space and reduced capacity because of the bigger chimney. The bad machining of the post holes is another problem to overcome, the ones in the "positive" posts are over drilled so you cut the wire off tightening the screws, but once you get past that it's a nice RTA.

It's gerenerally known to be related to the tail set up. Typically I say tails not thin enough. .. This is because the rayon outside the coil is not constricted and can swell with juice more than the coil. This swell up can pull caramelized juice back out of the coil.

Each Atty is different and will work best with a specific tail set up.... Like kgswy found the right trim for his squape.

Uneven tails, or more like the full part can cause one side to get brown too. Its like the balance is off. If one side is longer you will see it turning dark.. Trimming it to be ever with the other side will cause it to magically run clear. The coil should be the center of the rayon universe.

I also have seen a tails touching a chamber wall in a dripper darken with condensate runoff, I know this because when cut back from the wall it went clear for the remainder of its life.. This condensate could leach to the tank.

I catch myself doing the same thing. I'll cut a couple feet from the big box and keep it on my desk in a altoid's tin, I'll pick up the trimmed pieces and start to put them back in the tin and ask myself why? (sometimes I'll toss them in the waste basket but most of the time they still go in the tin)

I can't get myself to throw away those tin's either, I just know I can use them for something, here's some neat ideas (I like the Martini on the go kit)
