Still on the Ku, but going to have to rewick. This is way too light. I've got a pretty large gap at the edge of the coil when I push down on the wick... Plus I reused my kinda shoty old coil that I bent around moving the coil in the air path.

Still amazes me though how well it can work with literally half the wick out of contact.. Well if your juice is feeding fast enough and you kinda crunch the tails into the edge of the coil. When my juice is flowing well, like it has been, I can hit it over 30w and its able to keep up with my short lung pulls. While I can see that the wick inside is really loose...

I still have two humidors full and well maintained, but I haven't fired one up in quite some time. When I first started vaping, I would usually have a cigar with my Bourbon, but now I prefer vaping with Bourbon. We've recently starting playing with single malt Scotch, And the smell of my cousins Maduro is proving to be irresistible when drinking Scotch!

edit: we use Rayon coasters for our Scotch on the Rocks...soaks up every drop of condensation!

You could get yourself some PG and extract those bad boys ;)

I recently rewicked my evil eye and goblin tanks with rayon and am having issues with flooding, works great if I keep vaping but if I leave the tank alone for awhile and come back to it there is juice all down the air holes... I packed the rayon in the coils very tight, don't think it will go tighter. Using the same wicking method I was using with cotton, just putting a tiny strand down the juice channels and leaving the rest on top, maybe I need to pack the channels more with rayon?

Yeah I just pulled the wicks they were crammed in those coils hard, I'm gonna try a new wick, get it wet and stuff those channels all the way, see how it does. Very counter intuitive being used to cotton. This rayon is like having no wick at all maybe that's why it tastes so good lol, wants to carry the juice to the coil but doesn't wanna hold on to it for beans.

Welcome to the world of Rayonotis and rayon wick.

I think you'll find it a bit of a balancing act. I've had the same problem with Foggers and an ErlK. It does take some significant rayon in the channels to prevent leaks but, at the same time, you don't want it too full or it will inhibit liquid flow. After a few times you'll find that balance.

Well I am getting dry hit's on the Origenny using the 3mm tank hole. I thought it might have been not enough rayon in the coil at first so I rewicked it and same problem.

What I thinks happening is that the Rayon's getting constricted by the deck hole and the support hole just underneath it. This constriction does not allow the juice to flow to the coil quick enough. I am going to move all the deck gear back over to the 4.5mm hole tonight and hopefully that should alleviate the dry hits.

With the Origenny it appears to be pick a build and stick with it. A real PiTA having to drain the tank to fix a coil or rewick, since you have to remove the tank sides to wick it...

Come on turtle with my FEV... :D

Thanks PaulBHC,

I tried removing the fill plug to see if that was an issue but it didn't solve the problem. I didn't have one single dry hit with the twisted 28g (3mm ID) build and the 4.5mm deck holes, so I shall move the 26g (2.4mm ID) coil over and see.

Much fun learning the quirks of new gear, It would be really dull just to fill a tank and go.

I never cut it to start. I pull about 6 inches out of the box (no comments from the kids). Spread it slightly and eyeball about a pencil size width. I splay that out from the mass to about 2 inches long and pull that off the mass. Then I roll that between my palms.

Don't you get fibers everywhere by doing that though? That's the only thing that annoys me with rayon, fibers get everywhere

On thw Graham's rayon, how do you get your wick? Do you grab it, cut a piece and then cut again with the thickness you want or do you do that by hand? Because it seems to be extremely thick and tight, not sure what the best course of action would be here.

I only pull it apart, for me that leaves a nice taper at the ends. Scissors only come out on the tail trimming. Some fibers will stray, use the leftovers to wipe them up. Once you set it any loose fibers in the build will stick down in the juice.

I usually cut off about a foot, then cut that into three or four inch pieces. When I want to wick I'll eyeball one of the small pieces for width, pull it off, Roll and massage it then wick away. The stray fibers are a bit of a pain, but as you get better with rayon, that problem will go away as well, it's either that I or I just used to it, LOL.

Probably not necessary but after wicking an atty and wetting the wicks w/juice, there are always some stray strands sticking up, making things look a bit untidy. To get rid of them I use a butane torch and quickly play the flame across the *wet* wick/tails. Gone like magic. This seems to really help clear the threads of the strands on attys having those vertical juice channels like an Aqua v2 or Lemo, etc.

ETA- a bit off-topic but I recently got an Aqua V1 in a deal. Thought it looked like it might be a good flavor maker and liked the concept of adjustable juice and air flow. So built the coil, wicked it and all's well until I went to fill it. I had done a cursory search on this but saw relatively little on the subject. So I was ready to throw this thing down a well after trying unsuccessfully to fill it w/o making a mess. I was making the mistake of top filling it.

After I realized the top fill method was flawed- even if it didn't make a mess, the tank was nowhere near filled- I tried removing the base and filling it that way. Needless to say, I was very happy w/the results- full tank and nary a drop of juice out of place! Turns out it's actually a pretty tasty atty, and have decided to put the Aqua v1 into my daily rotation. thumbsup.gif

Vacuum problem, maybe? Your coil might be too fat for that hole - with the 3.5mm hole, my coil is around 2-2.4mm. Or you could leave out the fill screw. That tank will loosen up in about a couple of weeks   It is a bit of a PITA to build - I keep the nugget-reducer thingie off until I'm done, wicking and all, so that I'll have more room. Try a horizontal build with a U-wick - that's REALLY fun! :grr::laugh:
