RDA regulated mod, lost need help!

Hey everyone. So for safety I am using a regulated mod, and I have some questions I hope you guys can help me with, because I’m tempted to just go back to my smok stick for it’s sinplicity, but I really don’t want to, the flavor is weak, and I want that massive vapor. A few questions I have are...

1. How do I know how many watts I can put my mod to? My battery is series, so I understand that the voltage doubles, but for example I have a dual coil build right now, .30 and it taste good at about 80-100 watts. The thing is running that high puts my voltage at about 5.16, is this safe? Is it true that the voltage displayed on my screen is actually the voltage of the coils and not the actual batteries?

2. My batteries charge to a 4.2...but it’s a 3.7 battery...what?!

3. Just overall I’m looking for information on what I can do with my regulated RDA. I would greatly appreciate any videos, links, and of course your advice. Thanks so much!

1: hard to tell without knowing what mod you have

2: yeah. Batteries are like balloons filled with electricity. As you deflate them the internal pressure decreases. Max pressure is ~4.1 minimum pressure is ~3.5, 3.7 is the average because the drop isn’t quite linear. The drop from 4-3.7 happens pretty fast. Like in the first 10% of battery life.

They just call it a 3.7v battery because that is the average power it puts out. its higher in the beginning and lower at the end. All batteries are like this. A fresh 9v starts at something like 10.2 iirc.

Lemme look and see if I can find something on the rebel. The squid dB is a quite well thought of mod. With 20amp batteries you should be able to do 100w no problem. You’ll need 30amp batteries to get up to the full 150w

I looked at the rebel. It’s very much a dual coil mod though you might be able to go quad if you’re feeling mildly insane.

Given your configuration I personally would start at 25w and work my way up. I like a cooler vape though and rarely vape much above 30w. Some might start you a good bit higher, like 40w. There’s this erroneous belief IMHO created by cloud chasing competitions that more volts is always better. If you’re in a cloud chasing competition where you’re vaping flavorless 0 nic liquid and it doesn’t matter if you burn out your cotton in one hit and all you want to to is make a cloud with the largest foot diameter then yes it is. Race cars make lousy street cars though. Just try driving a Porsche in the winter. It’s ludicros. My quasi brother in law had one and he literally could not make it up his driveway if there was an inch of snow on the ground.

I’m vaping a 3.5mm single coil kanthal @.35ohm and I’m vaping at 30w atm. It’s a totally different atty though. As the saying goes YMMV

Will it burn out your hardware? No. Will it set your cotton on fire? Possibly.

Higher than what? 100w? Best to get some high drain 30amp batteries for that. Burning your cotton isn’t dangerous. It’s just messy, annoying and tastes terrible. Just go up 5-10w at a time if you want to avoid it. You will either get to a point where the vape is good, or you will burn your cotton in which case you need to wrap a lower ohm set of coils.

What kind of coils are you using? You really shouldn't have to be running at 100+watts to get good flavor and clouds. Coil placement and wicking play a part also.

I’m not sure, just 24 gauge kanthol that came with my coil master kit...I wrapped them at 3 millimeter bit, 5 wraps, 2 of them that read a .29/.30

I don’t mind rebuilding either, to me it’s fun, especially since I’m so new. I just want to make sure I’m doing things safely

You are. That info helps to narrow where your sweet spot will be though. My money is somewhere between 40 and 60w no way to know till you try though. As always, YMMV

If you want to vape such high wattage, I might consider rayon for a wicking material. It withstands heat and has more longevity than cotton. I still think you will be changing out your wicking quite frequently, running those wattage, but it might help you a bit.

I am going to also second raising your coil resistance a bit and playing around with lower wattage, to see how you like it. If you don't, you don't, but if you do, you will have a much easier time wit wicking, flavor, and possibly may find you like the vape. You can always go back to 100 watts after some experimentation, nothing to lose, and possibly some ease as far as your tank and gear and batteries.

100 watts is really pretty high.

Set your coils so the airflow hits your coils at 4:30. Also bring your coils out as far as you can. Your wicks should just drop down to the bottom of the juice well. You don't want to block the air from getting around the coil. The coils you have should be good. Can you post a some pictures of your coils? From the top and from the side?

Yes but you have to remember it's more of a balancing act. If you want to build lower resistance but have enough mass try parallel coils or twisted coils. Are you familiar with www.steam-engine.org ?
