I'd thought of that previously because I normally run 2.4 with 22 which always seems to land at .17 but thought the bigger coil would give the surface area for better flavor with the thinner wire.Instead of dropping a wrap, switch to a 2.4mm or 2mm screwdriver; I've been finding that a smaller inner diameter will improve the airflow around the coil resulting in better flavor. This will drop your resistance a bit, decreasing your ramp up time but it also might improve the flavor as well.

However, now I remember having the same dilemma when i started building with thicker wire a year or so ago and a narrower coil was the ticket. You may have hit the nail on the head.
I'm not sure how I ever built with this crap.
