FWIW, cognitive reasoning in a male brain doesn't fully developed until the age of 25.

Some say it never really does.

But, to side with the OP, vaping zero nic can be a less harmful stress reducer compared to other alternatives our younger folks seem to face.

That's a good point. And it seems to be something that doesn't stick anyway, so it would likely be a short term hobby. I don't think there's a huge downside healthwise, compared to say, drinking or riding motorcycles. Or both at the same time.

I enjoy vaping, seems a iffy to tell other folks not to. Bit of the old do what I say not what I do.

My 20 y/o nephew bought a couple of mods and tanks about a year ago. He was never a smoker, but wanted a new hobby -- cloud chasing. A year later and he seems to have lost interest.

Being a firm dis-believer in the venerable "gateway theory" I guess he failed to walk through the gateway to tobacco.

Well, honestly, I don't feel guilty telling a never-smoker, never-vaper that they shouldn't vape as honestly, after being a smoker for all those years, I really cannot in good conscience recommend vaping as really, decades ago there was kinda the same "lessai faire" attitude toward tobacco, it was no big deal, you can quit if you want to and etc. And there were a lot more smokers. My brain, which knows what it likes and demands more of it at all times just should never have TRIED a cigarette.

Honestly, I'd give almost anything to have been a never smoker, never vaper, regardless of how much I enjoy vaping compared to smoking. I love vaping because it was the ONLY way for me to quit without mad and crazy amounts of suffering, frankly. The whole darn time I was pregnant and nursing, I craved cigarettes EVERY DAY. The 6 months I spent with the gum were impossible, and I had to knit feverishly the entire time and was still cranky. I'm deeply thankful for a SUBSTITUTE that works, but that is what it is for me, A SUBSTITUTE for my terrible decision making in my younger life.

I still believe there is no rationale for vaping UNLESS you are a former smoker or about to become a smoker. But that's it, for me, although anyone can make whatever decisions they wish, and usually do.

Baditude made an excellent point though, without chemical addiction associated with cigarettes, assuming the use of 0 or very low nic, is it a habit that will stand the test of time or be a short lived hobby? Young people coming of age during the rise of vaping will be the ones to show us that. I personally wouldn’t encourage a never smoker to start but there are certainly more things that are known to be harmful that someone could experiment with instead.

The more I read this thread, the more I am leaning from "I wouldn't suggest it" to "it's your own body, make your own choices."

Maybe there is a rational middle point:

1) I would not suggest it, however;
2) If you are going to do it, make sure you fully understand the (currently known) risks/benefits.

I would also add "learn the potential dangers associated with your vaping equipment."

I think in this world that we so often have government, society, other people, family and friends, and even random strangers try and tell us what we can and can't do. I partially took up vaping because it's somewhat unregulated (no pun intended) right now. To me at least, it's a fun hobby, AND a way to not smoke, AND a way to give a sweet little raspberry to the establishment.

If they try to outlaw coils, I build my own. If they try to outlaw e-juice, I make my own. If they try to outlaw e-juice flavors, the actual chemicals that make up flavors are not hard to find:

A-B - Certified Food Grade Products | Sigma-Aldrich

You can also see exact percentages by looking at SDS's from certain flavoring companies. (For example, absinthe flavor can be made from 10% 68952-43-2 and 90% 64-17-5).

Even nicotine can be grown and extracted from leaves:

Heirloom Tobacco Seeds for Sale - Sustainable Seed Co.
