Hello everyone! I'm here on behalf of my roommate/friend who is a long time heavy smoker and recently began making to move to e-cigarettes for his health and mine.

He has been using the ego-T with this cartomizer -- A-Tech Vapor : CE5v2 Transparent Cartomizer - $8.95. He likes the way vaping makes him feel verses smoking cigarettes, but he keeps having issues with the ego-T as well as the cartomizer, and it's becoming so much of a hassle that he's finding it easier to fall back to cigarettes. He's had to replace the cartomizer twice because they kept burning out and two batteries on the ego-T have had problems: one overheated randomly when he plugged it in to charge and one has had a button break.

Now, I'm sure part of this is due to the fact that he's a heavy smoker and is likely putting a lot more use on the units than maybe is average, but surely there are some out there that are more reliable than this? Thankfully the company he purchased these items from is owned by another friend and so they have been very understanding in regard to replacements, but my roommate is willing to buy something elsewhere if necessary. Any thoughts?

Edited to add: I read some other recommendation threads, but I'm not a smoker nor am I a vaper (there are apparently some of those around, I understand), so all of the products are very new to me, as well as my friend. I thought it might be more expedient to explain the situation and see if anyone could pinpoint some exact products to look into. Thanks!

Welcome to ECF. Here is a cheap vv kit that will probably help as he can adjust the voltage. The ce5 would be better but it comes with the ce4 in the kit. I have ordered from here before and free shipping. He def needs two batteries for a heavy smoker. These should last about 8/9 hours on a charge for heavy smoker. At least they do for me. You will get many suggestions check them all out. http://www.vaporbeast.com/product_p/sk36.htm?Click=391

Some people are best off with a no maintenance carto that screws on, and all they have to do is charge and press a button to vape. Not saying your friend is or isn't that kind of person. Just to give an example. I payed my old ego-t setup with stardusts to my brother and a week later he gave it back. When I started cleaning the equipment, I noticed all the heads were gunked and the liquids were almost black. He had no head for maintaining the equipment and stopped using when the equipment stopped performing.

Hopefully your friend will stick with it, it almost doesn't matter what he uses, as long as it's taken care of. I use a Provari, but still use my egos for a backup or when I run out for a quick trip somewhere.

Agreed, A mini vivi nova or a full size vivi nova tank would probably be best. But they still aren't foolproof, they need maintenance. If your friend is not willing to maintain the equipment, look for pre-filled carts. It's more expensive, that's why most of us have shopped around for better ways, but it's ALMOST hassle free.

The most simple reliable setup in my opinion is a Vision spinner eGo battery 1300 Mah with the smok XL Mega cartomiser. I have lots of different equipment but always fall back to this basic setup. 2 Vision spinner batteries $50. 5 pack of xl Mega Cartos $12. Add juice and a charger and you have the perfect kit that will work. The cartos last 1-2 weeks so they will need to be replaced just like extra juice.

I totally understand your friend. In the beginning all you want to do is pour the juice and vape. After 9 months of vaping and being off cigarettes, I've found that the most reliable to date are cartomizers, and boge brand for that matter. I buy my cartos from Valley View Vapes Boge Cartomizers. For an extra $1 Ray will test the cartos and punch them for you if you use a tank.

He also has the most reasonably polypro and pyrex tanks I've come across so far: Triple V Polypro Tanks.

There are many vendors that have excellent ejuices. I am currently vaping juice from Spring Vapor and they're delicious: Spring Vapor eLiquid - Spring Vapor.

I noticed you're in Texas and so are Valley View Vapes and Spring Vapor. You're so nice to do all this research for your friend, wish both of you the best of luck!

I like the clearomizers with replaceable coil heads, very low maintenance if you don't want to wash: use and replace.

Sounds like he needs to be running an 18650 mod and carry extra batteries or get an ego batt that has pass through charging.

If he goes the 18650 route get a dual charger and those little battery cases.

One suggestion is to let him have some high nicotine juice. I smoked between 2.5 and 3 packs a day. I started with 24mg and if that doesn't satisfy him there are vendors that sell 36mg. I've tried to cut back to 18mg cause I was making myself nic sick from heavy vaping. I still need to buy some more 24mg so that I have my fix. Their are lots of quality batteries out there. I've got to second the vivi nova. I've only got 10 of them and really like the way I can just rinse and replace the coil head. I've started going to a carto/tank system for the taste. I've got 6 pyrex tanks from IBTanked - Get Tanked With Us! and also 2 from Phiniac Rugged Pyrex Glass Tanks. The IB Tank is very cheap priced for a really high quality no leak tank system. The Phiniac's are a lot more expensive but they are hand made and both of mine are a custom tank. Made just the way I wanted them with the sandblasted logo? i wanted on them. If your friend can find a really good set-up and can afford the money I agree with the Provari. I've got one and also a kicked Silver Bullet. Both will last a lot longer than I will. (I just can't figure out who is gonna get em when I pass on.)...
I'm so sorry I didn't say the special words.
WELCOME TO ECF. AND I WISH YOUR FRIEND ALL THE BEST WISHES AND YOU ALSO FOR CARING ABOUT THEM SO MUCH. I love to see people help each other.
