The first coil I built for my dna20 was a 28 ga .6 ohm, the chip won't regulate it if you turn the power down too far and the ohm reading will flash to let you know it is running in mech mode, but it does run it.
Only ran that coil for about an hour before wrapping a more sensible 1 ohm-ish coil.
You don't burn the juice at high watts when using larger gauge wire, your throat on the other hand...

Anything else I should be looking into? Oh right! I need to figure out how to convert the Destroyer into a DNA20 model ... that's not gonna be easy.

Any chance you're still looking into making it 22mm atty compatible? Or shall I request a dna 20 Wench looking into?

Just a quick note. Many testers have and do use DNA 20 mods with sub 1 ohm coils. Pbusardo tested a Opus D with a .8 ohm RSST and other Opus Reviews do the same. Also the Elevator (telescoping DNA 20D tube) and the Cyborg have both been reviewed using sub 1 ohm coils. Not sure if that would matter with the materials you are looking at but something to think about.

Well thats news. According to the DNA20 data sheet, it's not supposed to work unless the coils are 1.1 to 3.3 ohms. So that means I need to use the bigger spring on the Cutlass20 as well. I may have to increase the height too the as the heavy spring need another 1/4" of battery compartment size. Damn.

No current plans, already have too much on my plate I'm afraid. A Cutlass without a catch cup would substitute for a Wench model.

I had some old caddies lying around I'm getting rid of, couldn't remember if you still had the Cutlass 5.1 still or not so I sent the other one anyway.

Well, time to quit for the night, done about as much damage as I can for the time being.

I think I may have solved the battery spring issue, parts are on order. It these style of battery connectors work I can keep the mods the same height. This spring style has enough surface area to handle way, way more current than the spiral spring style. Yay!

I have another question I would like to throw out there for anyone in the know to answer.

This upcoming batch will see some changes. A high amp cruiser and the Cutlass with a DNA20. I am also thinking of re-releasing the "Marauder" model, which is the 3.7v non-regulated version of the Dreadnaught.

If I do, is there any reason to also make it a high demand (HD) current mod? Do people use micro-ohm coils in a tank? If so, then it should also incorporate the bigger wiring and beefier battery spring that the new Cruiser will have.

The new line-up would be (maybe);

Cruiser HD, 3.7V, non-regulated, 7 amp (new 8 amp resettable fuse), 6 ml bottom feeder

Marauder (HD), 3.7v, non-regulated, 7 amp & 8 amp fuse, inset tank mod

Cutlass12, VW, 3.5 amp, 6 ml bottom feeder
Cutlass20, VW, 6 amp, 6 ml bottom feede

Destroyer12, VW, 3.5 amp, inset tank mod
Destroyer20 (pending)

Thats a lot of different models!

At least you're going with the flow of the changes! It's better than the big cig-a-like companies, their continuing business model seems to be "Screw them out of hundreds before they quit or buy a mod and refill their own carto's!"

Gotcha, makes sense. The fewer models I make the less confusion.

Bitterness, hard to avoid. I have to watch competitors moan that they are struggling to produce their 200, 300 or more mods a month and what a pain it is to keep up with demand. Those poor, poor people. Those blunderbuss sniffers produce more in a couple weeks than I make in a year. I wonder..what I've done wrong ...sigh..

Anyway, I think I may have been lying about the reverse battery protection. I simply cannot find a design for a reverse battery protection circuit that doesn't drop at least .3v during operation and with DNA circuits, that's just too much. The circuit must also be extremely small. I don't know if the fuse will even help in a reverse battery situation, I doubt it would do anything before the DNA board smoked. Pity.... but I will keep shopping around.

Not sure if you had seen it or not. And if for some reason being a supplier stops you from viewing here is a quote.

"Update: the Vishay rep recommended si4477dy or si4463cd for reverse polarity protection with the DNA20D. I ordered si4477dy and have been doing some testing with it.

I'm happy to report great results with reverse polarity protection plus reasonable voltage drop under load (except with the single 18650 batt under load at higher watts).

Single 18650 AW IMR 2000mAh batt:
@10W = .27v drop
@15W = .42v drop

Dual 18650 AW IMR 2000mAh batts in parallel:
@10W = .14v drop
@15W = .22v drop

The rep suggested I combine the 3 source pins (pins 1,2,3) and treat it as one pin for source and to combine the 4 drain pins (5,6,7,8) and treat it as one pin for drain.

It is an SMD part, but at a 5mm size it is doable."

She goes on to say she saw only a .01-.02 voltage difference under load without the FET

But she does bring up a good point about under load with higher watts in that topic so I was wondering. If there was enough people interisted would it ever be possible to talk you into making a Feeder Style DNA 20D mod that would take dual 18650s in paralell? Even if it was a limited run or special run type thing."

BTW this reasearch was done by Mamu for the benefit of modders using the DNA 20D board.

Ahoy and good morning all!

Yeah, exactly the problem, too much voltage drop at high amps. A circuit that drops only a small voltage can't handle the high current people are using lately, and a circuit that can handle the high current drops way too much voltage so the DNA would quickly think the battery was depleted when it was not.

I did search around on google a bit, there are some zero volt drop polarity protection circuits. Unfortunately, they use a mosfet/7 pin transistor logic gate and a rather large diode and you'd have to make your own board. Component cost of $11 each too if you want the high amp mosfet yikes.

btw, what's the largest tank people are typically using now, is 22 mm big enough? I seem to remember looking at numbers around one inch (25 mm), or am I remembering wrong.

22mm is kind of "standard" for the most part. I just measured my largest carto tanks, Phiniac clear glass was 24mm, Phiniac colored glass was 27mm. Old school analog caliper measurement, so a grain of salt is in order, +/- 0.5mm for safety.

Cappy is currently working on the current batch. Watch the thread here or the website for when the next round of preorders opens up and set up a personalized wood combination!

There may also be a few that make it to the website to buy directly between batches, but Cappy would have to answer that one.

DNA 20 might be available in the next preorder batch as well, exciting times indeed!

On that page there you can choose a model you're interested in. After selecting, the next page has a bunch of options to choose from as far as body and panel wood species, as well as switch/catch cup colors.

As the batch is in progress and preorders are closed at this moment, all you can really do is play with the options and get a feel for what's available until the next round opens up. There will most likely be new wood to choose from for the next batch to look forward to also
