I wonder if I may ask a quick question, please. Although I'm not unfamiliar with bottom feeders, (I usually live down on the Reo forum), I was fortunate enough to pick up a Mark 8, Dreadnaught on the classifieds. It was just delivered an hour or so ago and is in absolutely like new condition. I must say that I am more than pleased with the design, operation and workmanship.

The mod came with four, (4) 16340 batteries that are probably nearing the end of their useful life. My question is if I can substitute AW IMR, 18350 batteries. They fit without a problem, (without the use of the magnetic spacer), a short test period indicates that they function fine but I am unaware if they will lead to any long term damage. (If I can use them it will make life a tad bit easier since I already have a large quantity for some of my Reos.

Any guidance would be greatly appreciated.

I have enjoyed following your forum, the camaraderie reminds me of both the Reos and Trippy Tip forums. Kudos to you all.

Welcome aboard Gioajack :)

Well, I tried to put some 18350s in a Mark-8 myself, as I didn't have any 16340 by the time I received it. It worked all right...but I couldn't put the front panel back as my AW IMR were too big. Still it was working great, and I can't really see why it would hurt the electronic... Just my 2 cents there, wait for Cappy's reply to be sure ;)

If you can fit the 18350s in there, it's all good. They do not damage the circuit, but you have to be cautious about overdisharging the batteries. Unless there is a zener diode in that particular mod, i have a tendency to avoid using IMR with the SWADJ3 circuit, and prefer to use the 900mah grey 18350s (as they can't provide enough amps when they get to a safe ~3.4v level and circuit shuts down, and they also last ~5.5-6ml of use) , or in the case of the Dreadnought, i stick to trustfire protected 16340s (~3.5ml between recharges).

Plenty people use that particular circuit with 18350 highdrains, it doesn't affect the circuit.

Ahoy! Time to stop and smell the roses. Took me yesterday and today to finish up the desk caddy orders and just got done boxing them up for shipping tomorrow, now I can get back to the batch.

Don't get me wrong, I love all the desk caddy orders, they keep me alive financially between batches, but they sure suck up their share of my time in the shop!

I just looked for a brochure/instruction pamphlet for the Mark-8 and could not find one, guess they got discarded during my housecleaning some time back.

I'm surprised you can fit 18350 batteries in it, but as long as you can there is nothing stopping you from using them. The regulator will simply stop functioning when the batteries get too low to provide minimum voltage and that point is above the minimum discharge level of the batteries so you should be ok using those batteries. I've always used protected batts as I like the extra level of protection.

I also design the mods to take protected versions of batteries so they usually don't need spacer magnets either :)

It sounds like you've been around for a while in the vaping world, the mod is pretty basic except for the dual mode/regulator bypass switch. Click it one way to use the regulator and the other way to use the mod with an 18650 battery in 3.7v mode. This mode can also be used to check your dual battery levels, just make sure you don't have an atty screwed in when you do it or you might zap it with 8 volts!

Doh!

I just realized the Mark-8 and the Destroyer II use the same instructions. After all the Dest II is just an improved version of the Mark-8 but the change is in the style only, the function is the same.

Anyway, I've asked David to post my PDF files on the website.

There, NOW I can stop for the night..... arrr

Well, even with unprotected batts like AW IMR 18350, you should be fine as far as the discharge level is concerned if you use the Dread above 3.1V, as it would simply stop firing as soon as the stacked batteries won't be able to deliver the required voltage IMO

Exactly right, the reg will simply stop working.

Thank you all for the very kind advice. Aidreon was exactly right, I originally tried the 18350's without the door, just to keep an eye on things. Turns out the door WON'T fit with those batteries but the mod operates perfectly with them

Prior to reading the rest of the posts, (Friday night is one of my three weekly dance nights, I'm old but I'm not dead... yet), I ordered 6 AW IMR 16340's from RTD. I have always gotten superb service from them with very fair pricing. These may end up requiring a spacer but since I normally don't use any of my wood mods outside of the house that little extra step doesn't really cause me any concern. (I did order an accessory pack from the website, along with a desk caddy, (I'd need 3 or 4 of them to hold my mods, but as they say, all in due time, all in due time), and have already received notice that they have been shipped. As with RTD, excellent service from RSM.

The one thing I noticed from the instructions that Cappy was nice enough to include on the website my switch is apparently a two-way switch as opposed to a three-way... it operates in the off mode and VV mode, there is no 3.7 mode. This is not a problem nor concern for me since I always vape at rather high volt/watt. (After 43 years of 2 1/2 packs a day 3.7 volts just doesn't meet my needs unless I wrap a coil at around 1 to 1.2 ohms. The high VV of the Dreadnaught negates that specific coil limitation.

All in all I am more that pleased with this RSM mod. The wood is both beautiful and tasteful, (it was listed on the classifieds as Leopard wood but I have no idea if it is or not but it certainly as a spotted texture like a leopard.), whatever it is I'm very pleased with it. The workmanship is superb and the size fits my rather large hands very comfortably. It has already become one of my three daily home rotation mods.

I'm confident that there will be more RSM's added to my mod inventory in the not too distant future.

Again, thank you all for your kind assistance and I wish you all a safe and pleasant weekend.

Arrrrr. G'morning maties. Wow the Pau Hana Party was great. I'll put my 2 cents in the hat. Personally once Woodvil owner, and believe me I've owned my fair share, the RSM line is just as good if not better than the Reo. It is far more readily to obtain and the customization is great. Not to mention the customer service that the fine captain provides. With the further rnd being done to constantly improve the line, that also makes the brand exciting.
