Series of tubes in Northeast Ohio
Ahoy. I'm just going to post a quick pic of the mods as I have just started the last of the sanding on them, but a promise is a promise. Pictured are only the ones that have been ordered by ECF members.

Once they get a coat of finish, they will darken a bit in color and be much more vibrant than they appear. I'll take another pic after they get some finish on them.

As always, click on the thumbnails for a full size picture.

710 cba191, 711 strprswpr, 712 chet, 713 Landlord, 714 Lazerrred

812 Churros4u, 813 Churros4u, 814 Michael69, 815 joc3721, 816 Yallrun, 817 matrixxu

And here is a pic of chets prize winning desk caddy design. It needs final sanding and then finish yet.

Very nice Cappy - as always. You do very nice work! Those will be beautiful and I can't wait. Thanks again and looking forward to them!

They do look sweet, and the caddy turned out beautiful too!

What woods are the 710, 812, 813?
and is 814 a non-VV bottom feeder?

Hey Chet,

I don't know about the 710 mod, but the 812 and 813 are a combination of Ironwood Burl and Spalted Gmelia Burl. One mod for my wife and one myself. We bought the wood on eBay but Cappy had a hell of a time finding enough good wood out of 2 blocks because of the voids in them (which we didn't know at the time of purchase, of course). He has done an amazing job with them and I'm sure they will be absolutely spectacular once polished up and finished. We can't wait!

They look awesome Churros4u. I was actually thinking about matching the door and endcaps woods and use different wood just for the main body with very contrasting color, but I just decided to go simple. I would also love to see how those two turn out when finished.

Is anybody putting any engravings? I'm still trying to decide whether I should do it for mine.

How much time do we have before you work on engravings captain, or is it pretty much too late? I need to order a couple extra feed bottles anyways, so I can send in one payment for both bottles and engraving. I'm just surfing around for some nice line arts ATM.

I see the wood questions been answered already, and yes, 814 is a special order 3.7v version of the Mark-8.

Yes, it seems the bigger the block the more opportunity to hide nasty surprises. Here is a pic of what the inside of a block of stabilized burl can sometimes look like. Even finding good enough wood for one or two mods was difficult and there will be places where I had to fill in the small voids and holes that I just had to deal with.

I am going to send extra lids with both the Mark-8's because the wood is not very firm and I am worried that one might get accidentally cracked.

If you can get it to me by tomorrow I would appreciate it as they are soon going to start getting finish on them. I have one engraving to do tomorrow first thing, so it is just as easy to do others at the same time :)

I'm always a lil meh about anything that should be portable being made out of wood. These look really cool, but I have a feeling I would destroy it within weeks. Definitely interesting, but I think I would have to reserve it for sittin in front of the computer writing nonsense posts on ECF ;)

Ahoy! Are you stationed in Japan or something like that? Anyway, I agree in part, I usually leave mine in the car when I go places and probably will keep doing that until they are much more widely accepted even if I was using a more stealthy model.

Anyway, time to hit the pit, night all, arrrr

Ahoy there! Permission to come aboard? ;)

No, not stationed, just came out here on vacation dern near 5 years ago, liked it, stuck around for a bit, ended up starting my own lil "web and graphic design, American style" biz and never left.
