How often are you guys waxing/ treating your mods? Should be getting mine soon so I was just curious how often she'll want a sprucing up.

:)

I do it every couple weeks, sometimes every week. Depends if they start to look dry to me.. problem is I'm OCD when it comes to mods. they have to be as perfect as possible...

Break time. Just finished putting the last of the epoxy on the mods, I might actually be able to ship tomorrow.

As for the finish, I've been using satin polyurethane since I started making Mark-2's. I tried using tung oil (which is actually varnish as no 'tung oil' sold is actually really tung oil which takes months to dry).

I like it as it will seal the pores of the wood but not leave a heavy coating on the body. As people handle it repeatedly the finish is worn thru and if you put a heavy coating of finish on it, it will soon look like a car with the clear coat wearing off, patchy and obviously in need of a new paint job.

With the polyurethane it doesn't look like that, just looks dry and that's when a nice coating of wax, such as Howards will restore it back to its old look again.

Ok, back to work, got a few dozen bottles to make, arrrr

Morning Sallie. And congrats to you also. You should have your's on Wednesday.

I wanted to ask ya if I could use your compass you had engraved on yours on mine also. It just looks so cool. If you don't want me to I'll find something else. No problems.

Hey Airborn, please by all means get the compass if you like it. I'm pleased that it's so pleasing. As they say, imitation is the sincerest form of flattery!

I won't be getting my cutlass on Wednesday, I just sent Cappy a couple pieces of scrimshaw on ivory that I want to see if he can use as an inlay. He won't get them until today. So it will likely be several more days for me while we decide what can be done and have her finished up.
