I just wanted to see this again. :)
Ok, this is the best I can do, I am working on converting 4 models to this type of repairable layout.

This is a mockup of the destroyer so I can test fit components and see how it all comes together. I've altered some things already but the layout is still the same. As you can see the tank is setting down into the mod to protect it and keep it from getting banged around.

No shown is a thick top end cap with a hole that will allow the tank to go down into the body and add about .3" more protection to the tank. The side panel is also not show and will be just a rectangle with magnets to hold it firm. I laid the other components down so you could see what will go where.

This is a mockup from a couple days ago so much tweaking has been done but you should get the idea.

Think Cappy would be willing to honor a request to have the VV display built into the bottom? I honestly prefer that to the inside.

Me too Summer. I like to see it.

Would a display window in the side be good? I would like to not do anymore the old way. If you look at your RSM and the bottom end cap you can see that the whole affair is hollowed out with all the components mounted inside and then glued together. Very time consuming and virtually unrepairable without just cutting off the old bottom and mounting a new one.

A bad thing about them, is if in the future I have to repair one that way out of warranty I cannot charge what it will actually cost me in time and labor for it is my doing that it is so hard to repair. I can't charge someone a hundred bucks due to my lack of foresight so I will have to make those repairs at a loss.

I would rather be smart and look to the future even if it is somewhat less appealing to some :(
