Arrr, been cutting wood all afternoon, time for a short break.

So far so good, but I will not be accepting anymore custom stabilized burl to use, the stuff looks fantastic but it is so full of hidden voids, hidden checks, checks that run deep into the wood and overlap that I had a bugger of a time just finding enough acceptable wood to make the preordered mods. I am also not thrilled with the strength of the burl wood when cut thin so I will be impregnating it with lots of finish to make it stronger.

Looks great, don't get me wrong, but I spent 5 hours cutting the wood for 3 mods, thats 14 blocks the size of bodies and 16 slats the size of doors just to get 3 acceptable mod/door combinations .... thats not good.

Ok, enough whining, back to work I go! yo ho!

hell know im glad i didnt win any of those auctions for wood.. crappy stuff huh?

I've never worked large pieces before, but yeah, I also had to clean the table saw blade twice so far, the resin melts gumming up the blade and I think the dust is so fine its getting past my dust mask a bit. Like I said, they should look outstanding when done but I was stressing out that I wasn't going to be able to get even one good mod out of the blocks for each one ordered, and they were big blocks!

Arrr.... yuck .... well, now I know better, lol

Capt',

I'm sure that 2 of the mods you're referring to are mine and I'm so sorry for all your time and trouble! Thanks for taking the time in working with them and hopefully it's smooth sailing from here on out! I will also apologize to those who wanted to send in their own wood and can't now  Again, Capt', I'm truly sorry!

Don't worry about it Churros4u. I was thinking about it so as to be able to top my own cutlass, but the choices out there are overwhelming. I'm happy to be confined to the wood choices that Cappy offers, which are outstanding and also overwhelming.

Arrr, well I'm glad we've discovered it now and I am VERY glad that I was sent large pieces to work from so I could keep cutting here and there until I exposed some usable pieces, that is the good part :)

I'm wondering actually, as the mods are roughly 2" x 1" and varying heights, that a small block nearly the size of the mod itself would have been better? That way we can actually see the box already cut to almost the dimensions I would be using?

Hmmmm.... probably be cheaper that way too.
