From these times, lived it! I remember playing this on the juke box at my favorite neighborhood hamburger joint when it was new...how coool were the times? To live in the 50's was the coolest! I was a little kid but dug every minute of it! :)

Oh, where oh, where could my baby be? The Lord took her away from me She's gone to heaven, so I got to be good So I can see my baby when I leave this world We were out on a date in my daddy's car We hadn't driven very far There in the road straight ahead A car was stalled the engine was dead I couldn't stop, so I swerved to the right I'll never forget the sound that night The cryin' tires the busting glass The painful scream that I heard last Oh, where oh, where could my baby be? The Lord took her away from me She's gone to heaven, so I got to be good So I can see my baby when I leave this world When I woke up the rain was pouring down There were people standing all around Something warm running in my eyes But I found my baby somehow that night. I raised her head she smiled and said "Hold me darling for a little while" I held her close, I kissed her our last kiss I found the love that I knew I have missed Well, now she's gone even though I hold her tight I lost the love of my life that night Oh, where oh where could my baby be? The Lord took her away from me She's gone to heaven, so I got to be good So I can see my baby when I leave this world

I was a big time street racer in the 60's for sure, when you could still hang out & have a good time & if you did get pulled over, the cops would compare notes on what they used to do, while standing there looking at your engine & telling racing stories but they couldn't condone street racing and after a lecture, tell you to be careful & have fun!!!

written by Jan Berry and Roger Christian. 1963. LYRICS: I was cruisin' in my Stingray late one night When an XKE pulled up on the right And rolled down the window of his shiny new Jag And challenged me then and there to a drag I said, "You're on, buddy, my mill's runnin' fine Let's come off the line now, at Sunset and Vine But I'll throw you one better if you've got the nerve Let's race all the way To Dead Man's Curve" Dead Man's Curve, it's no place to play Dead Man's Curve, you best keep away Dead Man's Curve, I can hear 'em say Won't come back from Dead Man's Curve The street was deserted late Friday night We were buggin' each other while we sat out the light We both popped the clutch when the light turned green You should of heard the whine from my screamin' machine I flew past LaBrea, Schwab's, and Crescent Heights And all the Jag could see were my six tail lights He passed me at Doheny then I started to swerve But I pulled her out and there we were At Dead Man's Curve Dead Man's Curve, it's no place to play Dead Man's Curve Well, the last thing I remember, Doc, I started to swerve And then I saw the Jag slide into the curve I know I'll never forget that horrible sight I guess I found out for myself that everyone was right Won't come back from Dead Man's Curve Dead Man's Curve, it's no place to play Dead Man's Curve, you best keep away Dead Man's Curve, I can hear 'em say Won't come back from Dead Man's Curve

I used to love that song... .Until I parsed out the lyrics... Then I decided to love it anyway, because HEARTBREAK may not exactly be a genre, but it COULD be, (albeit a mixed bag, LOL).

Anna

I loved the way they described things then in songs, it just showed alotta heart I think. It was all a very simple life really, not all complicated with too many choices of things & one thing meant everything with no doubt,
even if it was sad, it still had a happiness to it somehow...maybe it was because of a faith & care in things people had in these times? Gotta go, things to do! :)

Oh, a stitch in time
Just about saved me
From going through the same old moves
And this cat is nine
He still suffers
He's going through the same old grooves

But that stone just keeps on rolling
Bringing me some real bad news
Takers get the honey
Givers sing the blues

Too many cooks, yeah
Spoil such a good thing
I know I laughed out loud but that was then
Ain't it funny, a fool and his money
Always seemed to find was those real good friends
That stone just keeps on rolling
Bringing me some real bad news
The takers get the honey
Givers sing the blues

Well that stone keeps on rolling
Bringing me some real bad news
The takers get the honey
Givers sing the blues

A stitch in time
Helps to unfold me
Circus starts at eight so don't be late
Please be so kind not to wake me
I think I'll just sit this one out

Well, I'm too rolling stoned
I'm too rolling stoned, yeah
Like a rolling stone
Just, just, just like a rolling stone
Rolling, rolling, rolling, rolling stone
Yeah, too rolling stoned
Oh just like a rolling stone
Well, like a rolling stone
