Well Gil, changing my last name was not a joke in any way. You just can not understand how much it can impact someone I guess. It is not only women, some children have their last name changed when their parent marries. It does signify something important.

I do not expect anyone to comprehend the motive behind me taking my Mother's maiden name. Only my closest friends and family know the whole story.

Sorry to bring something up in here that went sideways.

My realtor just called and said the seller has some legal problems which may take an extra month to work out. So I may be stuck with the wind sprinter an extra month.

First world problems, I know, but it still sucks.

I kept my married name, after my divorce. I never got remarried, nor changed my last name back to my maiden name. It is just too much trouble. I kept the married last name for my kids. It was just easier to deal with. Changing your name is such a hassle. Of all the places you must notify, and all the red tape. Not to mention I have stuff labeled with the newer name. But if you feel better with a name change, by all means, that is more than okay to do! I am sure you have your reasons. I think even if you want a different first name, go for it. Life is too short to worry about what people think. In the first name change though, your mom might not be too happy with you...lol. If mama ain't happy, nobody is gonna be happy. But you are the one who has to live with the name, and in the end, it is YOUR decision.

a few of you know, but i changed my last name when i was a kid. i just did that by registering for school under a different name. there was no real problem registering under a new name but the idiot unbelievably kind registration lady insisted i needed a middle name. i hadn't thought that far ahead. i was reading a book about Mozart at the time, so i chose "Wolfgang" as my middle name. it has stuck with me for about 50 years...

thanks to 9/11, i ended up having to go to court to legally change my name. even tho california has historically allowed pretty much anything.

i've never really understood the marriage name-change thing.

I am still working and maintaining! Recently embarked on a legal journey and changed my last name. Now I have my Mother's maiden name as mine. It was a emotional conquest to wear a last name that I feel really fits who I am. After 42 years I feel like my name IS me!

After my last divorce about 17 yrs. ago,i went back to my birth last name...I figure i was born with it and now i'll die with it,,,cuz I ain't gettin married anymore!

I went back to my maiden name. I waited for years because of the kids.

I never would have ended up with someone else's name if only the law would allow either man or woman to change their name for free. My ex had planned on changing his name instead (just to p.o. his dad, I think). They wouldn't let him change his name unless he did an official (and expensive) legal name change.

I really wanted us to have the same name at the time. But, once I did it, I was sorry. I chose poorly.

Oh you women and your issues with names. When I got married I had my wife change her name. I wanted her to have my old girlfriend's name.

i went to the condo this morning for the pest inspection. my realtor gave me a summary of the seller's problems. the seller went bankrupt, but supposedly cleared the condo. but there are liens against the condo, from a big bank as well as the HOA. the realtor advised me to withdraw from my move-out notice, and said she'd send me more listings.

so the condo looks like toast, tho i may know more tomorrow. i'll probly withdraw my offer tomorrow, since this is turning into a nightmare.
