Replacing cartridge wool

I'm using the fish tank filter stuff, it was just a large rectangle sold loose, and I make a little cap with tea bag material after reading about it somewhere else on the forum, and then I put a little plastic piping down the side of the cart, the pipe is polyurethane I think, used for a pneumatic paintball gun. The carts working well like this, fills up fine and smokes until quite dry, and no burnt plastic taste from the polyester fibres. It leaks quite a lot if carried around while vaping, but I think that this is an inherent problem with 801's anyway, just got to carry it around dry and stop and fill when I want a vape.

Does anyone know what the filters in e cigs are made of? Is it cotton? If so I think I'm going to try using a cottan ball. Any ideas?

After searching 2 petstores and an aquarium shop, with no luck, I finally ordered my Fluval 2 Plus from Petsmart online. Since I don't have enough posts, I can't post the link.

fluval filters rock. - I picked some up today. I haved used them in my kissbox. they suck dry. they work better than anything I have found so far.

I'm playing with fish filter mousse (foam) for the bottom 3/4's and fish filter batting for the last quarter at the top. It still leaks. If I put more batting, the suck is too hard. And I am using the little straw.

I'm finding it real hard to keep my coil moist, good vapor and leaking. It seems my ecig works best if I have leaking.

Do 901's leak as bad as this 801?

In my experience, no. I have had very little leaking from 901 carts and I carry them in my pocket all the time with the mouthpiece up. I'm using mostly the original stuffing but I usually clean it, fluff it out with tweezers and even snip a little if it seems too thick. I have replaced the stuffing in a few carts with batting from Walmart. It works just like the original if you don't use too much. The least amount of stuffing that will keep liquid in the cart is best. My 801's leak like crazy if left with the mouthpiece up. I usually use them on a passthrough and leave them lying horizontal most of the time. They don't seem to leak in that position.

Just an idea...If the fluval filter leaks from the battery end...Why not pack a small ball of wool or poly packing at the bottom of the cart near the battery? It is nowhere near the atomizer so it shouldn't get hot.

The tea bags seem to work great for just one or two refils but then they get too soggy and need washing out........I am now finding the coffee filter paper works much better for refilling over an over.

I agree. They tend to leak and not taste that good due to buildup or something. They don't have a burning taste or anything like the wool though. The area by my PC is a mess! (paper towels, piece of paper with liquid stains, tweezers, etc) I think I might give the coffee filters a shot. Do you use them the same way? Do you plug the end of the cart with packing or anything?

I own a Dura and a Kissbox. (Have a Stick on the way) I keep going back to the Dura because even with the stock carts, I don't seem to have any of these issues. I'm beginning to think the 801 design is a bit more than just a little flawed. I was originally going to stock up on carts and 801 attys but might wait until the Stick has a 901 and Dura adapter. Then I will stock up with carts and attys that work much better. Anyone have any thoughts on this?

Yes I am using the coffee filter paper in the same way, making a loose roll of it that leaves a hole down the center which allows air to get down to the bottom (basically the same thing as using the straw idea really) I haven't needed to change the paper for a week now....I just keep topping it up and unlike the tea bag it doesn't seem to hang onto the 'oily' part of the juice. That's in a penstyle atomizer cart though.

Actually this method is working pretty good (with straw). But I'm still going to try teabag wrapped around fluval sponge

I haven't even gotten my 801 yet but am thinking of tearing the stuffing out of one of the five carts that come with my kit and trying this. But since I'm so new I dunno if I'll know what I'm looking for. So an approximation of how often to do this would be cool. If this is something you have to do more than once a day, it sounds like it could be more of a pain than a help.

I have had a love and hate relationship with my 510 since I got it a few weeks ago. Great vapor but I had to top up every couple drags or get that burnt plastic taste. The wool would be making contact but the atomizer just was not absorbing from it well. My 401's would act up like this as well but not to the same extent. I think it comes down to the individual atomizer rather than the e-cig itself. It does seem to be a little more prevalent on the 510 as it gets hotter than the others I've tried so far. At any rate, here's a cart idea I wanted to pass along.

I've just tried using fabric softener sheets for the cart wool. I cut a about a 1 inch wide strip 3-5 inches long depending on cart size and wrap it around a straightened paper clip until I have a cylinder shape slightly smaller than the cart and slide it in. Then trim off any excess sticking out. The cylinder shape makes it firmer and I have better contact with the atomizer. Also I don't have to fiddle with the wool every time I top up. The vapor seems to be greater and more consistent as well.

Next time your doing laundry give it a shot. Now the question is, what to do with that pillow sized poly-fiber I bought from Walmart?

That's what I was about to mention.
After discovering just how big of a coating it puts on heating elements in the clothes dryer....Hmmm....

Or, are you talking about completely used ones that everything have been used up on it??

My 801 carts with fish tank filter and teabag cap with a straw have lasted over a week now, and are working fine. They still smoke till they are dry and take a lot of drops to refill. You have to experiment to get them just right, but when they work they last. Another factor is the consistency of the liquid which varies according to the amount of VG you use, I found 50 percent VG makes the liquid too thick, especially in cold weather, and the cart doesn't perform as well. 20 to 30 percent gives good vapour and is still runny enough.
