I think my problem is that I need more material. After I refilled the cart, my first few hits shot liquid in my mouth. :/

My impression is that you need enough material to prevent that (or other kinds of leakage) but no more--as little as possible. Wiping down the side of the cart is important, but if there is not enough material inside the cart, fluid will leak out (down towards the atomizer) and get sucked up the side while you are using the PV.

sometimes a bit of liquid will run down the outside and get into the air grooves,
this is when you get liquid in your mouth.

This happens while vaping, too, even if the cart isn't overfilled. I believe it's vapour condensing as it's being pulled through those channels. Gradually you get a build-up of liquid and eventually you get some spillage. Blowing through the cartridge from the mouthpiece end can get rid of much of it, and my 510 carts at least come apart completely so you can clean them all the way through.

I am new to the e-cig and I just started using my DSE901 2 days ago... Since I am/was basically a chainsmoker I am constantly refilling, LOL.

Been reading this thread and I thought that a round oillamp wick made of 100% cotton or hemp may work?

I can't test it since I do not have any, but maybe someone on the forum has some?

Beging a wick, it should funnel the liquid pretty well, being natural cotton or hemp should be healthier than whats in the carts when you buy them.

They come in different diameters/thickness, so would fit different cartridges, just cut to lenght on stick in.

Example:
add the www dot before below link!

Interesting idea. If mine weren't soaked with lamp oil right now, I'd have tested it for you.

I know it's nothing new but I tried Fluval for the first time and it's everything I have been looking for and never been able to find with other fillers. I've tried tea bags, napkins, paper towels, and must say that Fluval has been superior not only to these but even to the original filler. I'm finally able to smoke and smoke and smoke, and eventually finish with a dry cart. I'm loving it!

I recently used fluval as well to refill my carts and I want to add a big +1 to that. I'm using an m401.

I've only been doing this a week now, and the last few days have been the filler days from heck. I really need a "dripping for dumbies' meeting where I can physically see this LOL

I have a 901 and I'm curious - when you say you are able to finish with a dry cart, do you mean just that - that the entire filler is dry - that it allows the atomizer to actually draw up the moisture from the bottom of the filler and I won't have to keep adjusting the filler every couple of puffs??
In my case, a mm or so of the filler becomes dry from the atomizer, but the rest of it stays wet. So, after a good puff, time to take my paperclip & dunk the filler down into it's own juices & try to fluff it up again while still in the cart.
I don't think that the filler has been compacted. I just washed them all out yesterday and they seemed to fit right back into the carts with no problem......

OR, could it be a case that I'm not filling up the carts enough? Seems like all the videos talk about just using a drop or two, and that's what I've been doing, .....but the bottom of the filler is still always filled with juice.....(rambling thoughts here....)

Also, with the Fluval, do you just cut them into strips that will fit down into the cart or do you cut them in squares and fold them to make them fit??

I'm sure that my fellow e-cig'ers will be able to help me with this on Monday, but Madison is a 2 hr drive and not really a drive I want to make with cart problems! LOL

I've made a video for the teabag filling material here:

Thank you!!! thank you sooo much for the video!!
I have a question. At around 1min 40 seconds, it looks like you are stuffing a little bit of batting or something into hole in the middle??
-or - when you slid the bag off the stick, did you do it in a manner that it kind of pulled off like the begining of a cone shaped (?? make sense?? lol where you can see the layers of the bag), and then you just tucked the top of the bag into the middle hole area of the cone??

No no i've done nothing .Some paper of the tea bug was out of the edge of the catrige so i scissored it of.
Nothing else.:)

I just came across this thread and haven't gotten the teabag or the coffee filters a shot yet, but I decided to try the paper towel, and it seems to be working good in my NPRO and took twice as many drops... now I know paper towels get soggy and disgusting am I going to have this issue with this? Should I not let the liquid sit on it for too long before vaping it all? I did just one cart as a test to see how it goes but I don't think it will sit with liquid in it over night.

If I can find where I put my coffee filters I'll try those next, unless I go out and find some empty tea bags somewhere. I like tea so I can't see myself cutting open a perfectly good bag of tea just to get the tea bag.

I couldn't find "Fluval" today, but did by some Bonded Foam Sleeve that "fits all H.O.T. Magnum canister filters. Is this the same thing? Anyhow, it works great so far. I was having the same problem as MlrGrl, where I could only get good vape for the first couple of drops worth after topping. The stock filler was saturated and the cart was full but I could never use more than about 10% of it. Now I find I can drain the cart. We'll see how it lasts...

I stopped by my local pet store today and learned yet another new thing today.
Did you know that "Fluval" is a brand name and they make loottss of things pertaining to filters?? Lmbo at that one I did!! (guess I'm not a fish person LOL) I mean; I knew/figured it was a brand name, but never realized they made soooo many filter-ish things!
At least I had an idea, and it's a lot like Vick's algae scraper, only more nylony and not as stiff as the scraper.

I've only tried it once so far, and it seems to be making a BIG differance already!
I haven't been able to completely empty out the cart, but I am getting a lot more hits between the initial one and when I have to use the paper clip to shove down and bring up more juice.

Since it's been a week, I'm going to give my atomizers a good cleaning tonight per Phil's instructions and see if that could be a little part of the problem.
