The evidence to 'myself' is that I haven't had 'any' of that plasticky taste since I stopped using polyester and that's good enough for me.:) but it's true that it doesn't to be responsible for the hard black build up at all.
Dr. Loi and others of us warned about the falling fibers last year, encouraging folks to pick them out of the atomizers when using carts. The forum "community memory" seemed to lose this for awhile, that's why I've been posting about it again the past few weeks but folks haven't seemed to pick up on it. :( I'm glad to see this thread.

I didn't have much success with the paper towel yesterday and need to experiment more with notions here. I'd love to see some direct links to appropriate, reasonably priced tea bags or similar products. Not a tea or coffee drinker so I could use some help with this. It would be nice to avoid bleach, if that's possible.

This tip on using tea bags is awesome. I simply cut the bag into strips and rolled them into a roll using an 1/8" plastic dowel. Once I finished that, I slid the roll into the cartridge and slid it off the dowel. The rolled tea bag strips unfolded to fit the diameter of the cartridge. I then trimmed just a bit of the end and it works great!! So much better than that horrible batting!!

Wow, this was a great tip. I can get 4 fills worth of material from a single tea bag (free at work) and I like it much better than the poly fill. I do have a coffee filter waiting for me at home so I'll be trying that next. The amount of liquid it holds is incredible and I don't have to constantly be pulling out threads of poly from my atomizer.

The tea bag method is you make tea and then you smoke your e-cig.... hahaha just kidding

First you get a tea bag for example liptons tea and you cut the top part with the staple and remove all its tea leaves.
Then you cut the tea bag about 2/3 or 1/2 depending on the cartridges you use and roll it. (You have to test here which amount is good as too much tea bag or too little would give you poor vapor)
Once rolled you insert it in the cartridge instead of the wool and cut the extra parts.
Then you drip your eliquid in the cartridge and Voila.

P.S. you can take it out and clean it with warm water and use it for other flavors.

I just tried the teabag and it worked great. It seems that it's producing a little more vapor and a bit of a throat hit. I had to dilute my e-liquid with vg and it killed what little throat hit it had, but I'm getting a little one while using the teabag. I was also getting a wierd taste from the polyfill that I was stuffing my carts with, but that taste is gone now. I did have a question though. Are we supposed to rinse the teabag after we dump out the tea before we use it? I didn't, but I don't know if I should from now on, or does it matter? I think I will definitely use this instead of polyfill. I just used the cheap ones that my work has for us. I think I can buy a big box of them for a few dollars. I use a 901 and with these teabags I can get 4 different fillers out of one bag. That will be really inexpensive.

My theory is that tea bags are already safe enough for us to boil and drink the tea so they shouldn't really need washing first.

Pete--you hit on something good here!!! At first, I tried it but went a little overboard with the e-liquid and flooded my atomizer. So I cleared it and gave it another go with a different filling method and I must say today I am very impressed---Great thinking on this one Pete!!!-----Sun

What I like about using the tea bag is that once I find the optimal size and amount of drops to fill it with ....I will be able to repeat it over and over again and be certain of consistency.....which in turn helps me to know where to look if my vaping isn't working properly.

Actually I am now making my cup of tea first and then using the used tea bag........waste not want not.......lol.

A big thanks to all who recommend the tea bags. I have an atomizer that was giving me a plastic taste, VERY BAD, and went looking for a reason why. I have since determined that the wire mesh in the atty is a little taller than my others (depth micrometer used for measurment) and was melting the polyester slightly. After reading the tea bag suggestion I put in a hemp bag from a herbal tea and it works great. Tons of vapor and no plastic taste! Thank You! I have a bunch of empty carts and plan to not even use the polyester filler that comes with them. Downside - Now I gotta buy more earl grey!

BTW - Herbal teas seem to mostly come in hemp bags.
