Tough question Dano. For me it is not really something I am chasing that is elusive. vaping is twofold for me. It got me off cigarettes first and foremost. It also became a hobby. I am perfectly satisfied with my REO's and ERAs. But little things like new wire or wick material or a different rba etc are just fun to play with and experiment with, especially if they are relatively cheap.

There was a time I was chasing the perfect vape because I was not satisfied with viv novas or plain cartomizers. Those days are long gone since I tried my first bottom feeder. Now it's just about the hobby and the friends here who share the same interest.

That's word ^.

It's like a hobby (experimenting) to me. Is it a need? Nah. Cotton works just fine :) well said Rob.

I may be a flatlander.
I may even be a semi-redneck.

But i'm thinking that the way this wick material craze is going on that in 6 months theres gonna be a whole new debate going on.....

What is the ultimate goal? Serious question?? What is the end all be all that's seems so elusive?

The wick wars are solely due to too much time on our hands :) Honestly, if RBAs were not available, I would be perfectly happy with shorty cartos on a Reo, with unflavored nic juice. That would be enough to keep me away from cigarettes.

Tiny unnoticeable wick improvements are similar to the existance of a gazillion different liquid flavors. People want something better, and different people have different tastes and preferences.

Honestly, I think if I found a wick and coil that would produce amazing flavor, tons of vapor, would be dry burnable, indestructible, and could run Android 6.0, the next day I would still be testing if I can replace it with old shoe laces, just to see how they would wick :)

There is probably never gonna be an end ! :)
For me, there is nothing illuding me, but some of the little details and subtleties just raise the bar a notch or two and it was already in the stratosphere.

It doesn't really need to be raised, but its fun experimenting :)

This is a great thread, thanks for all the work. I've been using hemp and have been very happy with it. Is there a reason for hemp not being invited to the cage match?

I've only tried hemp once, with terrible results. Tasted like wet dog to me. It's entirely possible that I did not boil it enough, or it was not pure hemp.

I'm still planning to try once I remember to buy better hemp. I heard that it is more burn proof than cotton balls, which is my only beef with them.

I think that's still illegal in my state :). JK, the only reason I even tried the Nextel is because it was sent to me as a gift. I would have never even thought of messing around on my cotton. But once the door was opened, who am I not to break it down? :)

I get bored easy, so I'm sure that now IMa gonna have to try some hemp and bamboo too. Thanks synic and Titan for throwing those on the table :)

Well i'm in total agreeance on it being fun and the awesome people!

Time may be what i'm missing to really get that hobby feel about it.

I'm enjoying being smoke free for sure, hooked on nic yes. But i'm enjoying all the reports and will feel comfortable trying the next best thing thanks to my fellow Reonauts! Rock on you pioneers of wickedness!!!!

I was/am perfectly happy with cotton balls in my RM2. That being said, I was growing a bit tired of little inconsistencies in wick diameters. Even though I consider myself quite adept at making cotton wicks, getting the size "just" right for my micro coils can be problematic at times.

When Russ started talking about the Nextel I liked the idea of having the same diameter wick every time, my only concern being the potential health risks (I know, I know... consider me paranoid!).

Then it occurred to me today that I have a spindle of boiled Aunt Lydia's bamboo. I tried it months ago but settled on cotton because to me the cotton had a more neutral flavor. Well, today I swapped some cotton for bamboo. Two strands threaded right into my existing micro coil with a perfect fit. Left two short tails hanging out of each end, joosed them up and waddayaknow? I got a great vape right away. Any hint of the bamboo taste was gone in three drags, but best of all, I rewicked all four of my RM2's with exactly the same amount of wick. I'm gonna let these go for a few days, but so far this bamboo feels like a win to me.

I've tried A LOT of wicking materials and have become proficient with some and mastered some. I was always looking for the better thing. Since the first day I tried the Nextel (~1 mo.); the issue of wicking materials hasn't crossed my mind. Search is over. The perfect material has been found.

What kind of juice are you using?

Ok got my 2 Reomizers in the mail today. Got some 2.5mm and 3.0mm silica wick from Reo. Already got plenty of kanthal and30 and 32 guage. I'm sorry I didn't get all the way through this thread, but these old eyes are tired and I know if I try to build it tonight, I'll just get frustrated. Still trying to figure out the micro coils. I've been building RBA's. Chobra, RSST and ZAP's. Got a AGA t2 also today.
Maybe when I'm a bit more rested I'll give it a shot. On the RBA's I use a 3/4 wrap of 30 guage for a 1.0ohm. I'm more familiar with the SS mesh than I am with the cotton and silica wicks. Oh well that's what ohm meters are for. Any guidance will be greatly appreciated from the Reo Pro's. Thanks guys. (a lot of the pictures aren't showing up for me either).
