Thought I would create a thread dedicated to how REOnauts are setting up their rba 2.0's. (since it comes from Maine, i'm calling it an AH-B.A. like Rob says it)

Here is my initial setup:

Coil: 2.3ohm micro coil made out of 30GA kanthal A1 (used a 1/16" drill bit to wrap it) Note: with all those wraps, the higher ohms produce a very flavorful vape. I usually vaped 1 - 1.7ish ohms.

Wick: Rolled Cotton, twisted up into a little rope, inserted thru the coil and trimmed.

Note:
This sweet little RBA just displaced a chalice from my Grand. DSC04556.jpgDSC04558.jpg

Your coils are works of art.

Pretty much the same thing here. 30g Kanthal, 12 loops around a T-pin coming to 1.8Ω. Cotton ball wick. I did open the air holes to 1/16th. I'm running these on my two go-to VVG's with my two favorite juices. Previously one was sporting a Chalice, the other an ERA. So far I can't tell the difference between my previous atomizers.

I had thought the short posts would make for difficult coil building, but these couldn't be simpler to use. I've not had a drop of leaking and the catch cups are bone dry. The only thing I can really gripe about is that with or without the o-ring gasket the air hole doesn't line up where I'd like it, so I'm vaping what feels like upside down. Thats a minor issue at best, and I think a slightly fatter o-ring will solve the issue.

I can see myself buying a couple more of these, and a fire sale in the classies.

Hell yeah. I already ordered two more. :)
Like they say in the hoods of old "these bad mammajammas are all that"

I see Hildibro pillaging an oring from a grand bottle in the near future.

I've had mine less than 24 hours and am very pleased with it. I have a question, though. Rob noted in his video that the air intake should be either to the side or top when you vape.

What I'm seeing is that ALL the excess juice returns to the bottle, so I've been vaping as usual, without paying attention to where the air intake is. Seems to be just fine, no leaks, no juice in CC. Am I missing something?

BTW, 30 ga Kanthal, silica wick, constructed about like Rob does in the video. It meters out at around 1.7 or 1.8 ohms. Excellent flavor and vapor. Re: the o-rings, I'm thinking a larger o-ring could be placed at the bottom where the atty has been machined, to fill in the gap, but it's not enough of an issue for me to followup on atm.

I recommend having the air inlet on the opposite side you lean the mod . Some folks tend to over plunge and the extra juice can block the inlet . Of course its not necessary just a recommendation its your atty you can vape it anyway you like :)

That micro coil, i read about doing it in a thread started by hilldago, is exactly how i plan to do mine! I bout 34 gage a-1 Kanthal. Is that about righta. Anyway. I will be copying your build. Tonight. I will get it done! Oops. I see. 30 gage. Thats ok ill wrap tighter and more coils. Est it on my Vamo and ohm reader. Super careful with my Reo. I dont have an extra Spring and the idea of collapsing Spring scares me!

Faylool, when I sent the samples of cotton/bamboo wicking materials, I stuck in a couple of micro coils....one using cotton ball (to show you how little cotton is necessary) and one with bamboo (to show you how to thread it through)....they are both made using 30 gauge. You can copy those if they work well for you. Hope you get them soon.

I like to keep the air hole pointed up and on the opposite side of my hand (finger user) not a huge fan of hot spitting juice :( Haven't received the 2.0 yet but with the original and the Era drilled out to 1/16 I do get the odd spittle probably a little heavy on the squonkage.

Wanted to try a cotton setup so seeing this thread I tried 30ga with a 7/8 wrap around a 1/16" drill bit for about 1.6 Ohm. Made the coil and mounted it on the RBA. Then I had some rolled cotton so I just took a bit and twisted it until it made kind-of a rough "yarn" and threaded it through the coil. Snipped the ends, dripped some juice on it and it seemed to work. Not really sure how one is supposed to make the wick from the cotton? But when I made my first wick and coil yesterday all those silica fibers seemed a bit scary, so I wanted to try something else.

This is how it turned out (already has drops of Boba's on it which is why it is a little brown).

Have no fear...you did it exactly right! I now use either cotton balls, rubbed between my thumb and forefinger or rolled cotton the same way as you did. It seems to be a much cleaner taste and no tiny shards of silica going in my throat.

By the way, have you thought of coming to the vapemeet in Ok., just above the Texas line? You'd meet some seasoned veterans of all things Reo and RBA's!There's a thread that'll tell you all about it if you're interested.

By George, I think you've got it! Nice looking coil and wick :)

super_x_drifter, do you make them 2.3 Ohm for a 3.7V device or are you building for VV?

I ask because the flavor on the ones I've built is muted and you said that your high Ohm coil is flavorful.

Basically compared to a 1.6 Ohm Joye atty, I'm getting better vapor and way less flooding. But on the other hand my 1.6 Ohm 30ga coil with cotton wick is providing much less flavor. I've only vaped a ml or so with it so I was going to give it more time to see if it improves.

If there are other suggestions I am would like to understand more. I'm building for a Grand though.

I wish I could but I'm already booked that weekend. Sad panda. I do think it is funny that some folks from smaller states don't understand what driving across Texas entails (some do, some don't - don't mean to be rude).. My little route would be the same distance as going from Louisville, KY to Detroit, MI. Grin. But if I was free I'd be there. Wink.

I am running the 2.3 on a grand. I typically prefer 1.7 or so in a micro coil, but this is working great so far. I run a similar setup in my VVG, but I keep the power turned town.

Are you running about 11 coils scrunched together and small diameter (1/16" +/-) or 6 or so fatter coils?

I ask because I didn't like the higher ohms till I made tiny touching coils. With fatter coils I was running around 1 ohm.

I built another coil and used cotton as the wick---I'm experiancing the same thing you are with regards to flavor. I think my silca wick was a little tastier. The new coil is sitting at 2-ohms on the nose and I even threw my Kick in and tried some different wattage settings with no real difference in flavor, just increased heat and vapor production cloud. I got about 5 ml through this set up, so it's gotta be the cotton, no??

How fat is the coil (how many wraps)?

Check out how many wraps are on the micro coil - I believe there are 11 or 12. You have to make it a very small diameter coil (I'm wrapping on a 1/16" drill bit) to go that high in ohms and get the flavor to pop.
