Safe to use a goblin v2 on a mechanical mod?

Hey everyone, I have been off the forums for quite a while but have since gotten into mods and coil building quite heavily. so I ordered some new vape gear, including a goblin v2 rta tank. I have only seen people use it on box mods basically on all the videos I can find. I did order a box mod too but sometimes If possible, I would want to toss the tank onto my smpl clone for space saving reasons. I am just worried it could short it out. I cannot find any info on this anywhere. I have always been kind of worried about using tanks of any kind on a mech mod ever since my cousin tried it and shorted one of my batteries out to the point of liquid coming out of the bottom of the battery. thanks in advance if anyone has the answer to this!

I use my goblin on my mechanicals and I also use it on a SMPL clone.

As long as your 510 pin on the atty sticks out further than your 510 threading on the atty you'll be fine with using it on a hybrid style mechanical. If not, you'll short the battery by having it touch the threading when you fire it.

Most importantly you want to make sure your switch, threading, and contacts are clean and free from debris. As long as you take the time to check your set up before using it you should be okay.

How confident are you in using your mechanical device? If you're not too sure we can post some links about battery safety and usage to help out.

Lastly, what battery are you using and what is the resistance in your atomizer? Do you use a ohm meter or a multimeter to check the resistance?

I've heard the pin is adjustable on the goblin v2 but all my rda's seem to work just fine with it and they all stick out a little farther than the 510 threads (the pins that is). I also clean the mod up when it starts to get gunk in the threads and such. I have a few sony vtc4 batteries that are legit (have gone down to .14 ohms no problem) and a couple Samsung 25r batteries so Im pretty good there and I will probably build a .3 to .4 ohm dual coil when this thing arrives tomorrow hopefully so any of my batteries should do just fine. I have an ohm meter to check resistance. the thing I have heard before is something about hybrid top caps on certain atomizers could short out on a mech mod. not sure if that is true, or if I heard wrong? the only time I had a big problem with shorting out was like mentioned above. all I could think is the tank was tightened down way too hard or maybe even the 510 threads were touching the pin that touches the top of the battery. but you did answer my question since you say you use a goblin on your mech mods so it will probably be just fine. I have looked up plenty of videos of how to put coils in the goblin too so I don't short it out. thanks for your help!

You're welcome.

As long as the build is steady you don't need to worry much. I notice the goblin's pin sticks out enough for hybrid use, looks great on the SMPL too.

There's a few atomizer pins that don't stick out the threading enough or the pin itself isn't stable for pin to battery contact. The subtank and some other subohm clearos have a spring loaded 510 pin instead of the threaded adjustment, thus not being stable and possibly unsafe.

Shortly after the Golbin release the post screw issue was fixed, so getting a steady reading should be easy. I replaced my early Golbin post screws with set screws to fix it. I have 26 gauge coils at 0.5 and its working well. It's a great RTA.

I got it all set up, .62 ohm dual coils and its working great on everything I throw it on. thanks again for the info! yeah I love this rta so far!
