So, I've been in contact with a shop that's about to start selling cloned mech mods, and is under the impression that they are real. In specific they are the Private V2, Chi-you, and King style. I was starting to get a little bit flustered/confused. They are most certainly from China, though he said he got it from a local supplier that most likely just got it from fasttech/China.

I will not mention the shop in specific.

My question is: How would you approach this? How should this be approached? Thoughts?

Recognize their stupidity/naivety and accept it for what it is and let it be.

in my town of over 200,000 people there is ONE true vape shop the juice is WAY over priced $12 for 15 mL. the hardware is marked up %30 over what i can find it for online already on the main land US. the golden rule of commerce is: things are worth what people are willing to pay. if your willing to wait a while and pay all the taxes and tariffs you can get 50 joytech ego batteries for $250

$12 for 15ml is normal.. which is why I buy my juice from MBV.

How much is he selling said clones for? Even if they are marked up it a bit, it may not be too bad. The basic rule of thumb for businesses use for pricing is to step on it 3 times. Cost = $10, Sell = $30. This accounts for the big three - supplies/ labor / profit.

That being said, they are just mechs, is it that big of a deal? At least they are not trying to sell complicated electronic knockoffs as the real thing.

While I have nothing against clones, selling them as authentic products (i.e. counterfeits) is dishonest and (at least here in Scandinavia) illegal. Not sure what means can be taken, but at the very least potential consumers should be made aware that they will not get the authentic product if they shop at that place.

sounds to me like the store is getting ripped off,,,,,,,,,it's not that they are PURPOSELY ripping off the public,,,,,,,,they are being ripped off and are passing that on to the public,,,,

I'd let them know that you're pretty sure they got ripped off with clones passed off as the real thing,,,,,,,,

if they're any good, they'll check it out.

I would make 100% sure that you are correct, clones or authentic?

If your sure that these are infact clones, I would inform the owner.

If the owner sells the clones as authentic merchandise, I would boycott said shop, and inform everyone I could!

Any shop that sells anything as authentic, and is not, doesn't deserve to be in business.

He's selling them for what I would consider a standard store front price for clones. I guess I'm really just wanting to poke at the concept of saying he's selling the genuine product, even though the price is a fraction of what it would be. They are clones. IE Chi-you had normal serial number lettering vs sysfont/block.

I genuinely think that the owner does not know that the price for the genuine products are much higher than what he's buying/selling them for. If not, he plays a really good dumb act considering that earlier in the conversation he talked about how he got knockoff Kanger produts and willingly replaced them with genuine units later on if they came back in with a problem.

As to what Grayscale said: The same could be said with every products in this industry. They are ultimately very simple devices.

I guess I could say I am rather connected with the shop at this point, and will advise them to not say they are genuine just to not look like fools. As to whether or not it is immoral really comes down to the selling price. They are prices as clones.

I agree with Buzzzlove, there is a sad chance that the owner is well aware of what he has and what he is doing. It would be a sad commentary if he was chuckling as you walked out the door. 'Really? fake, no way!' Unfortunately, you really have no way to prove him wrong, less you enjoy dumpster diving. Even if you prove it is intentional, what then? <shrugs> Sorry, no good answer to it.

off topic but i noticed counterfeit products at a big name retail store that im not supposed to say and showed it to a manager that happened to be working behind the counter. by the time i could pronounce the "t" in counterfeit i turned around and the suspected items were nowhere to be seen on the shelves. a few months later, the entire mall and several others in the general area had a big shakedown including flea markets.

that being said, i was under the impression that a counterfeit is only so if the original has a registered trademark (is that the right terminology?). The owner may have bought it from someone that is bulk ordering a bunch of clones from sites we all know and trying to scam b&ms... or he bought them himself and is covering his tracks.

Clones are one thing. Counterfeits are another.
