Your questioning things and doing research so that is a good sign. Have you tried asking those around you (hopefully loved ones) how they feel about your plan to self medicate? Advising somebody that is not a past smoker to start vaping is a difficult area. How did you conclude vaping might help you with those things? In other words, are you trying to keep from smoking cigs, or taking medicine? Have you spoken with a doctor to go over all viable ways to help you sort out your difficulties? I also read further down that you have decided to dust off your skates. I say YaY to that. Good old fashion physical activity just may be the ticket. If not and you chose to vape, come back and read, learn and ask lots so you are making an informed choice. Good luck
The last bits of your post gave an "IF THAT," vibe. My personal request to this community is not to enforce non smokers to start vaping, not even remotely. Please and thank you. I am not being a .... hurt, it's just a request. Because, we all know that it's easier to start and impossible to quit, and while we do it and it's kewl until a certain point when we see and compare ourselves from what we were before smoking cigarettes, and how things would be if we weren't smoking is regretful. At least it is for me.

So again I eforce the OP NOT to get involved in vaping nor any sort of smoking habit.

You can request it all you want, but IMO I know that it is highly unlikely to think that people will not continue to chose any vices. Choosing your path in life, good, bad or indifferent is personal and while others can advise, if it is sought out, nobody can "enforce" somebodies right to chose no matter what. The OP didn't give too much info originally so I chose my words carefully, not knowing why this path was even being considered. I said my peace as to thinking, talking with others more knowledgeable, agreed that skating was a better choice, but also let them know that "if" they still choose vaping (it's their choice you know) to learn as much as they could about it. I will not change my view nor my advice. The quote in red I say is true about cigs but not necessarily vape. I am far beyond in years and education to use words like "Kewl" to describe anything I do. Sorry if I got your knickers in a knot but I am a realist and hope that when people are choosing their vices that they will at least pick ones like vaping over cigar, cigarette, or other combustible tobacco vices.

I can only attest to my personal smoking/vape history. I smoked for 38 years, 2PAD for the last 20 of it. If the phone rang I lit a ...., if I was driving I lit a ...., if I was awake I lit a .......you get it right? Well with vaping I am down to 3mg strength and usually vape about 3ml/day after 10 or so months. I have left my house more then a few times without my vape or had it have problems so I could not use it. If that was when I was smoking I would have gone back for cigs or stopped at store (panicked all the way) to get some cigs. Now, I say, oh well, it will be there when I return home. I would not go so far as to say that nicotine is not addictive at all, but absent of the other things in cigs it would be far easier to give up. Like along the lines of caffeine. Several years back I gave up a caffeine addiction, well that is not entirely true, I used replacement therapy there as well. I used to drink 15 to 20 cans of Pepsi a day. I tried to go cold turkey and found I could not for any length of time so I started to drink black Iced coffee as a replacement. I cut out the sugars and all the other crap in soda but kept my caffeine for the time being. I had a much easier time weaning myself off of the coffee then I did with the Pepsi. Now I (like most adults) have one black ice coffee in the morning and I am set for the day and if there is a morning that I cannot have coffee so be it. Now I think Pepsi/coke taste like swamp water and wouldn't touch it. So I disagree that it would be just as hard as quitting smoking, more like giving up caffeine or chocolate or ice cream etc..... If somebody took up vaping as a fad, it is my opinion that they would tire of it pretty quick and replace it with another fad that is in at the time.

I've actually noticed dramatic (30lbs lost) reduction in food cravings. Especially if you get a juice that's the same or a similar flavor to what you crave. For me, peanut butter.

What kind of oil? Like hash oil? Essential oil? Mind you, with essential oils and other snake oil, you'd get the same effects if you just ate something off the ground. And as for ........ oil, there's nothing safer than unsupervised narcotic consumption to treat medical issues.

I was speaking of Essential Oils.

I'm NOT a smoker, never smoked anything before. I'm looking into starting nicotine-free vaping because I have depression, anxiety, extreme stress, and just because it seems like a viable way to suppress my snacking cravings and to wind down after a long day. I would consider vaping 2mg juice, but I'd rather not if I have the choice of nicotine-free juice. Is this stupid or what? If I do start, I'm going to buy one of the Joyetech 510-something pens. Long name-ish. For juice, I'd like to try something from Virgin Vapor since that place has a decent reputation from what I've read. I have a shrimp allergy so I'm wondering if I have an allergy to one of the juice ingredients, so I'd like to have a bit of a testing phase for the first week.

I would suggest that you Look for Other Avenues to deal with Stress and Snacking Urges.

Exercise would be My 1st Suggestion. Joining a Gym is nice, but Not necessary. It is Amazing to me how a 10 Minute Walk around the neighborhood can put me in a Better Mood. Or a Bike Ride on a Sunny Day.

Also, Many People find having a Hobby is a good way to Unwind. Painting, working with Clay, Gardening, etc. All great ways to get away from things that might be causing you Stress.

Just about Everyone here agrees that using an e-Cigarette is "Safer" than Smoking. But few will say that using an e-Cigarettes is Completely Safe.

We just Don't Know what the Long Term effects on Inhaling Food Flavorings, Colorants and Artificial Sweeteners is?

So if you Don't Smoke, I would Suggest you try doing the things mentioned above and by Others before you start using an e-Cigarette.

I think I've heard enough opinions. My hobbies that didn't screw my life are drawing and ice-skating. I think I'm gonna dust off my hockey skates this weekend and dig up my old sketchbook tonight. Thanks.
Excellent idea. Just be careful drawing while you are skating. Good luck, friend, and Godspeed.

I honestly don't understand why people are so hesitant to recommend vaping to non-smokers but so gung-ho about recommending it to smokers who would like to quit. It seems a bit counter-intuitive. Honestly, yes I understand you wouldn't want someone to get into doing something that could be found later to have adverse effects. I understand that, but I don't understand the idea around here that vaping is purely smoking cessation. It's not.

It depends on the person and the reasons. Having dealt with anxiety, I would say that if vaping helped with the anxiety, it is probably the least dangerous treatment, when you consider xanax and other drugs as mainstream treatments. I wouldn't recommend an 18 year old start vaping just because his friends are. But if you honestly think that it can enhance your quality of life, I see no reason to not give it a try.

if you know someone who has done what you are asking about ( same types of stress issues) and vaping helps them, maybe a sampling just may do it for you... taking all the different anti depressants that are available may be worse than vaping... some of the side effects ( listed in the TV commercials) sound really scarey.............

Question of the day is... Have any non-smokers (those that never have or have not smoked cigarettes for let's say 10+ years) started vaping nicotine and could not stop, even when they wanted to?

13 years off cigarettes and I vape because I enjoy it. I roll the Wife's cigarettes every day and not once has it ever crossed my mind to go back to that. They are not the same thing. I like my coffee. I like to have the occasional alcoholic drink but that doesn't mean I will someday become a raging alcoholic.

If for some reason regulations passed that prevented me from using nicotine in a bottle (meaning only big tobacco sealed cig-a-likes were available) I feel that I would probably stop vaping altogether, as it would no longer be enjoyable to me.

Just my 2 cents.

I am far beyond in years and education to use words like "Kewl" to describe anything I do. Let me be crystal clear here, since this seems like a personal attack. Regardless of how much education and how many years you have, the word "kewl," was used in a context to define and privide my perspective in terms of advising anyone regarding smoking or vaping, because i have experienced it, there fore; My perspective and a humble request was posted. I didnt ask you to claim your years and the level of education over me to tell me how good you are for this discussion, i simply requested with respect not to advise nor enforce one to start vaping. It has nothing to do with your education nor it has anything to do with your experience, it is just a human thing to do, to stop one if he or she is going towards the wrong direction and seeking advice while they do so. Vaping is a healthier alternative for smokers, may not be a healthier alternative for non smokers.

That being said. I apologize if my post may have come down as a personal threat to you.

I will excuse myself from this thread and let " more educated," personelle to discuss this.

With kind regards

I am a girl who want who want to help my father to quit smoking the tobacco. He smoke for more than 30 years. In order to change his smoke habit, I would like to find the best way to help him to using the ecig.
If all of you have any suggestion for me ?
Thanks
If he's willing to give it a try, there are a million flavors, and he's going to have to try a few until he finds a few he enjoys. What I did was buy a bunch of flavors from ecblend since the trials are 2.50 for 5ml I believe. I tried probably around 40, and really enjoyed 4. At first I used 5 or 6 small aspire bvc tanks and swapped flavors until I found some I liked. Then I ordered bigger bottles of those, got better tanks, better batteries, etc. Now I've found a setup that's satisfying, and have a handful of flavors I enjoy, and I don't smoke!

I wouldn't get any cheap gear, because if it doesn't work and its not reliable, he won't use it. That's number one in helping somebody. I recommend the Nautilus mini tanks, with an istick 30w. The 30w is reliable, as is the Nautilus, and they are relatively inexpensive. If he finds that he wants more vapor, there are more tanks and he can still use the istick. Plus the nautilus is a simple setup, as is the istick.

Most vape shops have trials setup where you can taste a bunch of flavors too, so if you brought him to one they could show him how it all works and let him try some flavors and see what spectrum he likes.. Whether it's tobacco flavored, dessert, candy, coffee, whatever works. The hardest part for me was finding those flavors I really liked. Once I found something I wanted to vape, the rest was easy.

Really? Recommending it to a smoker is a risk reduction for the smoker. The non smoker is already at low risk and starting to vape is actually a risk increase for them. Since most of us vape to not smoke because of said risk reduction, the logic of not recommending it as a risk increase to someone else is actually logically sound.

I value your thoughts and can understand why a recommendation to vape can raise peoples brows, but please read for a different perspective.

While it is true that before somebody takes up anything that may be considered a vice or habit that they are at the lowest risk, many people headed toward adulthood, or going through a difficult time are contemplating starting to do all sorts of things that are more adult related like drinking, smoking, or any other number of vices that I cannot name here. It would be rather unrealistic of us to think that we are the only people that will vape and that it's only purpose is to quit smoking. It can also be for a person that is thinking about smoking or another more dangerous path to feel relaxed and choses vape instead. Look at it this way. I decided at a tender age of 12 to pick up a cigarette, other people pick up a cigar, a pipe, drinking wine, beer, booze, or some pick a completely illegal avenue. We are human and it is in our nature unfortunately to seek out ways to comfort our hurts. Some people find it is enjoyable to do healthier things like sports, reading, or social clubs and activities to help alleviate the stressors of a long day. People need something that feels like an escape and I would rather let them know that vaping is a better choice then some of those other vices. Of course I always suggest the healthiest ways first and I encourage anybody regardless of age to always seek out ways that they can be the healthiest most productive person they can be for themselves and their families.

Think of it in this light... Why did you start smoking? Didn't anybody tell you that it was bad for you? I can almost guarantee that you knew it was bad even if you may have been too young to fully see the consequences later in life. Did the words of anybody telling you to "Just say no" make you stop and chose something better for yourself? And lastly, if there was a less intrusive alternative like vape available when you started to smoke wouldn't you have wanted to be guided toward it instead of smoking? I know I have seen the words "I so wish vaping was available when I started smoking" many times. This is why I may recommend vaping as an option to somebody that is a non smoker asking questions about vaping. Because if they are asking they are thinking of starting use of something that allows that escape for themselves. Again I will reinforce that I would start by recommending the best option of seeking out the healthiest things they could do for their body and mind.

I am not sure if you feel personally attacked by me or if you are saying sorry to me if I felt personally attacked by you. If it is the first, I said nothing in my reply to you that could be taken as an attack. You are entitled to advise how ever you see fit and so can I. You questioned my advice whether or not you choose to see that. You can have your own opinion but please do not tell me mine is wrong. The only reason I said that I am beyond years and education to use words like "kewl" to describe anything I do was to let you know (using your own dialect) that I would never advise anybody to do something simply because it is cool ,kewl or any other associated word to do it. I felt it was implied that this is what I was doing so once again (rephrased) I am far beyond in years and education to use words like cool to describe anything I do (or suggest). It was not a claim of my education over yours, but simply defending my POV as is my right.

If it is the second.... I never feel threatened by somebody elses POV. Maybe, however, in the future, you can let others POV stand. We all have different views here. No need to excuse yourself, nor to imply that I suggested you were less educated. Relax, have a :vapor:, and continue to help those in a way that you see fit and I will do the same.
