FYI, CASAA has just engaged a laboratory to do extensive testing on eliquid as a means to counter the outright lies being perpetrated about eliquid vapor. This testing alone costs $15,000.

If you can't financially support CASAA, at least please join and keep up to date on the struggle to maintain our ability to vape.

Just to clarify, for this particular project, we aren't going to be conducting new laboratory tests on liquid / vapor. The expert for this endeavor will perform an extensive evaluation of all the test results that have been published during the last 4 years. There's a good description of the project here: CASAA: CASAA Launches Research Fund, E-cigarette Study Review

CASAA very much appreciates how the community has stepped up to support research efforts. And we are very happy to note that this has resulted in an increase in membership. Thanks to all of you.

This has been such a great and informative thread - and it's perfect on the New Member forum because it's information that every new member/vapor should have. I'm a researcher by nature and even back when I dabbled in e-cigs a bit last summer, I knew of the controversies out there. I also knew that vaping and e-cigs might just actually get me off cigs, so it was worth trying, even if the future was unknown. And now here I am, over two weeks off cigs and very concerned about that unknown. It makes me sick to think that whether it's the FDA, pharma companies, politicians, tobacco companies and/or lobbyists in each others pockets, the bottom line is that for some, all these smokers getting off tobacco and onto e-cigs is a bad thing - when for the majority of us, it's a huge relief and a major health benefit. Within 2 days of registering at ECF I had joined CASAA - I am not confrontational or outspoken by nature but I will fight for what I believe in, and this - this I believe in 150%. At 11:00 am on 3/3/13 I threw away my empty pack of Parliments and picked up my e-cig with Peppermint blast from HHV in it and haven't looked back, been tempted, or even thought about an analog - that should be cause for celebration, that after 18 years of 1 1/2 packs a day, it was that easy - not something to have to roll your sleeves up and prepare to fight over.

But, as the OP asked, yes, I have started to stock up just a little - it certainly can't hurt and all of this does make me nervous....

If anyone thinks there is a limit to how government can (at least attempt to) infringe on the rights of one segment of the population at the behest of another under the guise of public safety consider:

AB 746, currently in the Assembly Housing and Community Development Committee, would ban smoking in “any residential property containing two or more units with one or more shared walls, floors, ceilings, or ventilation systems.”

If passed, it means you couldn't smoke in the condo you just bought. I doubt it will pass, but it's a scary indication of the current climate.

i really don't see how they can full on ban e cigs while keeping tobacco legal. the thought process seems backwards. all the research points to tobacco being bad and harmful, while not enough research has been done on e cigs to determine whether or not they have long term damage potential. common sense tells us that it's best to use our lungs for nothing more than breathing oxygen, but whatever...we make our choices. the pharmaceuticals they put you on to help you quit smoking don't work, and possibly cause suicidal thoughts. the gums and lozenges cause heartburn, and not enough research has been done on them to determine whether there are serious long term effects. nicotine itself has shown itself to be no more harmful then a cup of coffee in many studies. so, banning e cigs would just be plain stupid.

given the current state of the union, however...i'm stocking up. lol

To the above post, the biggest drive for a "ban" or whatever is probably due to the massive amount of lobbying from the tobacco industry to stop it. It's a huge cut into their profits, and they do still have a lot of power in Washington.

I like to think that it has little to nothing to do with the actual "unknown health risks" of vaping.

All the FDA needs to do is ban e-cigs until enough research is done to confirm that they are safe (Which we all know could take years if ever).

There are several powerful groups that have a fork in this pie. Pharmaceuticals want them banned to eliminate their competition, and their lobbyists will be pushing that to the FDA. Tobacco will want strict regulation with nicotine liquids and who will be allowed to provide them and in what type of delivery devices (likely only sold in flavored cartridges like Blu's). Then you have all the anti-smoker groups. Casaa is our only advocate with our best interests.

yup. and any of us who are not members at least, and at best supporters, aren't doing what we need to do to keep vaping a "thing". i do NOT want to smoke cigarettes again...and i really love vaping for so many more reasons then the fact that i was able to quit smoking. i love the technology, the community... way too many things at stake.

.....................Hey man !

As consumers we should be glad that the FDA is looking to regulate nicotine products for electric cigarettes right ?. What i mean is, depending on the what these regulations might be, we should be asking how we can benefit from it. Nevermind what you may of heard from whoever about any kind of restrictions that might occur, and think about what good could come from any regulations that are put in place to protect the vaping community. Forget about a ban or restrictions on nicotine and try to imagine that the FDA are actually trying to protect us. Call me naive but but isn't that what regulatory bodies do ?. How many people have been reported to have been killed by overdosing on nicotine ? None that i know of. Maybe you've heard different. So what reasonable evidence might the FDA have to support a ban or restrictions of nicotine products for electric cigarettes ?. Whoever it is that you say is complaining about electric cigarettes, nicotine etc, and is suggesting these restrictions you think might occur, actually need a reasonably good arguement to put to the governing body. So i see that in one corner there are the people that want a ban etc and in the other corner there are groups like CASAA. Obviously you think that without a lobby group such as CASAA the vaping cummunity will cease to exist even though no one is really listening to the people that complain about electric cigarettes in the first place. And that is supposing that people actually are complaining because they hate the electric cigarettes. No one cares about those that hate the electric cigarettes and hating them isn't a sufficient enough reason to ban them. But let me make this clearer. Your saying People that work for the FDA hate electric cigarettes, nicotine etc, so that means they are going to be banned or regulated. Does that sound feasible to you ?. I simply don't believe it. Why, because it sounds so very ridiculous. No one cares how these people "personally" feel about electric cigarettes. And it will never be a reason to ban or regulate them even in a worst case scenario.

Tobacco stand to gain back much of the market share they have lost over the years… and possibly reel in a few more smokers. As long as they lock out the competition.

The getting involved doesn't only mean for ecigs. For too long in this country people have been complacent and apathetic to what the gov't does. They base their allegiance to a party or company without even checking facts. It's time more of us pay attention to all issues if we want to have any rights in the future.

.......................Or if they were smart they'd start selling their own branded e liquid and ecigs. And that is propably the arguement being put to them by everybody concerned !. So no one is going to listen to them either.

i just found this thread and haven't read every post, but here is my opinion. if the gov't decides to ban vaping, it's not because they care about us. otherwise they would have banned cigarettes decades ago. i CAN see them taxing the holy crap out of it like they do analogs and i think that is probably what will happen. also, i see the big tobacco companies weaseling themselves into the vaping industry. nothing is done in this country by gov't or big business that is not greed driven. if there is money to be made, they will do what it takes to do it.

While I Agree in concept, but since the monies involved Are relatively miniscule, I could see a total ban thereby giving the appearance the fda is indeed protecting us. I just don't see vaping as a big enough threat for BT or BP in the long run. Vaping is a niche & I believe if allowed to continue, would remain a niche market. I hope I'm wrong but I see total ban. This is not only about the money. The big message is big gov will do as they please. You my still see some 2MG cig a like from BT.

Somewhere in New England
Stacee-
Please just look back a couple of years ago...
The FDA wanted to ban e-cigs
Made rules that they could not be imported- and seized the shipments at port ! Really-Really hurt a lot of vendors that paid up-front.
Had to go to court...judge said no to the FDA (twice)-
That made them mad. Now they are at it again.
(they don't hate e-cigs...they HATE being told NO !)

And I do believe that you might be naive to think that they are only looking to protect the general public...
They are beholden to large political and Corporate interests.
They have 150 people that do nothing but reviewed new cig brands for the last 5 years....NOT ONE GRANTED.
(That's 150 people who have done NOTHING for five years....on your and mine dime.)
It's not about 'Regulation to Insure Consumer safety'...It's about the dollar ! IMHO

Been around enough decades to know that no government agency can 'protect' us when TSHTF.

did you see any of the earlier FDA meetings? they were pretty negative towards vaping and to be honest we didnt realy have many people stand up for us at the time, they were pretty clear that the FDA dont have to prove that they are harmful or have risk they want proof from us that they are not harmful and we cant prove that yet.
