Shoulda came here before I bought my Blu

Bought a starter kit back in march after a friend of mine recommended it. As with anything else I've read about them here my issues are the same...battery life especially, probably great for a lighter smoker. I've tried different liquids/flavors/strengths/mixes and I gotta say I'm not very happy with its performance. Anyways I tried a 4081 and I think its more up my alley so if anyone wants a blu kit for cheap just ask. Thanks for the forum...just wish I had found it sooner.

4081 is OK but not a lot available for it. And only 180mah. But there are a couple of kinds of blank cartos and some prefilled ones and a manual battery at AZSMokeFree.com

Most people here use and recommend manual batteries - harder to damage or kill with juices leaks, easier to get a good hit, won't turn on accidentally in wind or vibration

The two most popular slim ecigs here are Joye 510 manual (and the long Joye 510 mega xl manual) and KR808D-1 manual (like Vapor4Life.com, SmokelessImage Volt, Halocigs G6 - the Vapor4Life manual has a larger button and longer cutoff, the others have short cutoff of 5 seconds and a smaller button on the manuals) and I recommend the standard/78mm batteries for 120mm ecig with 60-70% more charge life than RN4081 or the small Joye 510

Sorry to hear about your misfortune with Blu. I almost made the same mistake before reading ECF. I eventually bought the Colibri Micro from epuffer.com. I have been very satisfied after owning it for 3 weeks. Good luck!

Thanks for all the info, I was to the point of ordering more carts for the blu or trying something new so I went ahead and ordered some parts for the 4081. Even if its not great as long as it gets me by until I read through the mountain of info ECF has to offer and become more educated as to what will work for me I'll be happy. Using the blu I've been back and forth with analogs, the most frustrating thing was taking a hit from the blu and having the led flash b/c the cart was too hot? even when it was cool to the touch. Glad to be here people, so much information very impressed.

    in a cave, eh?
If you haven't bought your new kit, consider the Volt from SmokelessImage.com. It's a KR808D-1. There are plenty of sites that sell cartomizers and various accessories for it. If you like better battery life, the battery has 3 different lengths, the longest gives you 320 mAh, the shortest: 220 mAh. All sizes of batteries will fit fine in a KR808D-1 XL PCC.

A lot of people like the RN4081 at first, but the battery life is terrible and there are fewer sources for parts.

As for the Blu, some people like it. Very often, what happens is that people hear about how bad the Blu is and return it before really giving it a shot. It's compatible with Joye 510 atomizers and cartomizers. It might be enough to get you off smoking and keep you going for a while until you decide to upgrade to a "fat bat" system like the Riva 510, Joye eGo, E-Power, etc.

If you find yourself going back to the Blu site for stuff, however, consider that money better spent on supplies for a new kit.

I've wasted plenty of money on various items until I found what works for me. Much of this stuff is trial and error. Once you find something you like you'll use it for quite a while...that is until you find your next "must have" device.

Best reply for a new person looking for an e-cig I've seen yet. Too often I see people refer new people to a mod that their buddy makes in their mom's basement and leave that as the only information they provide. Your reply isn't focused on 1 particular e-cig or website. Kudos.

OP, to add to this, if you decide you like the 510 or kr808d-1, there are bigger battery version of these available if you decide you don't like how long the battery lasts. For the 510, I use the eGo. There are other versions out there also, but this is the most popular all-in-one version, that doesn't use separate batteries and chargers so you have to keep up with a bunch of extra parts. Somebody correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe the big batt version for the kr808d-1 is the vgo. This could be rn4081 threaded though. Either way, a couple more options for ya. To give you an idea of why I'm mentioning this, a small cigarette sized e-cig is normally a 180 mah battery. This is the "capacity" of the battery and will affect how long you can go between charges. The all-in-one big batts vary from 650 mah up to 1300 mah (depending on which version of e-cig you go with).

Can I put the blu atty on the ego batt? Or is that just a waste of time?

Yes, you can put the blu atty on the ego battery. I like the low-resistance stuff, i.e. Boge LR or SmokTech dual coil cartomizers on an eGo, but the Blus will work.

I've never used a blu, but I've heard a lot of complaints about them being rip offs. At least this isn't like the mall kiosk devices that are proprietary. At least this one is 510 threaded :) Learn something new every day...

Yeah, they're 510-threaded. Apparently, the polarity is reversed in the batteries. So, you can't use Joye batteries in the Blu PCC or charger. But the standard 510 atomizers work ok.

As to the proprietary mall kiosk devices. Very often they're rebranded RN4081, M401/2, or KR808D-1. Apart from the KR808D-1, the best advice is to generally start over with a standard kit. But you can always accessorize the Blu from a better site until you're ready for an Ego or whatever.

I did the same thing - bought a BLU - was SO disappointed...
Watched all the Youtube videos, thought I might be using it wrong -
two good puffs - AH -delightful, then blah...

Back in the days when Leaford was the king of reviewers, he signed a deal with Vapor4Life...
    I followed him there, 'cause I simply couldn't get the hang of all the numeric terminology - 80 ? 510 ? 408 ?

Just give me something that works for now and I'll learn as I go I figured!

So I dropped $70 or $80 bucks and bought the VaporKing ultimate starter kit -
they were cool, they sent me like 20 free carts with it...

Everything I needed right out of the box... No fiddling around,
nothing complicated... Expensive, but still half what I was paying monthly for smokes...

Since then, with that kit as my standby - I've slowly been evolving into a connoisseur...
IMO - their service, speed, and quality is really great...

I've found better stuff, but nothing simpler, easier, or more all in one :)
