How in the hell do you pronounce Ali'i and why is it named that?

How in the hell do you pronounce Ali'i and why is it named that?

It means Chief in Polynesian (I think Polynesian, some language anyway )

I pronounce it AHH-LEE-EEE

I might be a little off on the pronunciation.
