tsk tsk...it's a cat o nine tails not a whip...lol...huge difference...
and that's just part of the stuff...right now when my OCD scatterbrained self finishes the next batch of stuff I'll have to take more pictures...I'm working on shrinking the leather corset way down and turning it into a tiny little corset shaped leather mod...

lol...it's ok...I'm just picky about the whole whip versus flogger, versus cat o nine technicalities...
cat o nine was a naval disipline tool...was made from the rope abord ship...tied a knot, left a space and tied another knot....and then unwound the rope (and since it was made of 3 strands of 3 ropes all twisted you got the nine strands....oh yeah you had to make your own to be used on you if you were the one being disciplined...since it was traditionally hemp rope the little fibers would tend to barb off and flay skin too....on the up side they were only allowed to give you a certain number of lashes else they had to pay you a months worth of wages ...
lol... the little monkeyfist keyfobs that kj4lxw was making have a pretty cool naval and weapon history too...

lol those little monkey fists were brutal too...inside that little knot they'd put steel cannon shot...they'd use it to throw lines further from the ship...but then as a make shift weapon they'd knot up the rope to give it a flexible handle...
then when the romanian gypsies were banned from having weapons in places like france they's tie the rope into a loop and put it around their wrist and palm the ball...then they'd throw it at your face...and while you were crying in pain they'd whirl it around and beat ya with it...it was refered to as slung shot...

lol....I just like to read alot...and am into the history of armor and weapons, and early naval history, and well being that I sell and hang out with the fet crowd alot...the history of torture devices and impliments (from a purely historical standpoint that is)...and well if you're going to learn intricate rigging and ropework it's one of the knots you learn (so I like to know the history of it)
being that I do medieval re-enactment...kinda like ren faire...we come up with persona for ourselves...and being that I've been doing that for 17ish years...I've got 3... one scotish, one mongolian, and one as an english privateer (hence the interest in early naval history...and that's not sitting around pondering the bellybutton)

Lots of folks out there carry a monkey fist using ball bearing, much ouchy.
I use glass marbles, then glue to harden the cord. Not going to knock anyone out but will get their attention.

Yep, I used to do faires in my late teens, early 20s. The Escondido faire last April was the first faire I've been to since then. My wife was dying to see what they were like and she dragged me along. We'll be at the Escondido faire in October again too. We go with a group called The Black Company.
