Hi. I've been vaping for about 3 weeks now. Well I started to get sick Monday so I finally made it to the doctor today. Turns out I have strep throat. Could vaping be the cause? I doubt it but I wanted to ask.

Pg is anti bacterial so it actually may help. When it was cost efficient they used it to disinfect hospitals via the duct system. Used today in certain operations because of it's antibacterial properties..

Did you quit smoking the same time you started vaping?

I ask because I quit analogs and started vaping 2 weeks ago. Sore throat, and bringing up some good gobs of lung butter in the morning for a few days.
I figured it was due to my body cleaning itself out. Lasted a few days, now I seem to be on the mend.

Or.... it could be a coincidence. Strep is a real thing though. Hope you feel better soon! Good call getting it checked out.

I've been vaping for over a year now. I've had a couple of colds during this time and they were a lot less severe and lasted a shorter time than when I was smoking. Like Vapoor eyes er I believe the antimicrobial properties of PG helps and the fact that vape is not smoke may be in the picture too. I vape through the colds too, much more than I ever did when I was smoking. Hope you feel better soon!

I quit smoking when I began vaping and went to the doctor after 3 weeks because I was very sick and had the same concerns as you. Though it was just a coincidence that I got sick at this time, my doctor said that the symptoms were probably worse because I had just quit smoking. I continued vaping and my health has only improved. Good luck and get well soon!

strep throat is caused by bacteria (maybe theres a viral version?) so I doubt that was caused by vaping unless you share your PV. Also some symptoms of quitting smoking are pretty terrible and that on top of your strep throat may have your throat very angry. I'd try to vape a nice menthol liquid, it helps me through colds and sore throats.

Strep throat is caused by the streptococcus bacteria. This bacteria can be picked up from surfaces and hand to hand contact and so on. You could have gotten it from kissing someone with a strep infection or by being very close to someone when they coughed, or touching a surface that someone with strep had touched for coughed on etc. and then brought your hands near your mouth and transferred the bacteria; putting down your PV on a surface that could have bacteria on it - which is anywhere unless the surface is sterile - could also have gotten the bacteria from a surface or another person and you. Sharing a PV with someone else without changing the drip tip could have exposed you to strep (possible you could have bought an accessory someone else had put near their mouth but that's a long shot and the strep usually does not last that long).

Vaping, like smoking does have you doing an activity that brings your hands near/to your mouth/nose and can aid in exposing you to bacteria picked up on hands/objects. So while vaping (like smoking or any hand to mouth activity/habit) "can" cause this the act of vaping itself is not going to give you strep throat.

Now that you have strep throat you don't want to re-infect yourself or give it to others. Good hand washing especially anytime you touch your mouth (so wash your hand when done vaping). Keeping surfaces around your home and work wiped down with a anti-bacteria cleaner - especially places you are a lot or others are like table tops, counters, desks, keyboards, mice or other pointing device, your cell pone and so one, as well as all your vaping supplies. Make sure you are rinsing drip tips under hot water after use, not blowing vapor in someone else's face (the bacteria is transferred on water droplets) especially kids if you have them. Once you have been on antibiotics for a few days and no longer contagious clean your clearo/cartomizers if you can or if disposable toss them and start out with new/clean ones. Of course, its should go without saying not to let anyone use your vaping stuff - you should never share but if you have to wait until you are over the strep before asking if they want to try it.

But no, the act of vaping, strictly speaking, did not give you strep throat.

Thanks for all of the info guys. I'm feeling better today with the meds. Fever is gone and my throat doesn't hurt as much as it did yesterday. I figured I was being paranoid about the vaping (although I feel maybe I shouldn't vape until this passes?)

Since a few of you asked, I'm not coming from analogs. I'm an ex smokeless tobacco user, and a former cigar and pipe smoker. Also I'm vaping 100% VG juice so I don't get the benefit of PG. Maybe I'll toss some 50/50 in the tank for a while.

Only thing to figure out now is this vaper's tongue lol

the same time I stopped smoking and switched to vaping full-time, I picked up a nasty virus from work and got the "quitter's flu"- I was miserable for about 2 weeks.. went to the doc and was given antibiotics and inhaler- and within two weeks, I felt awesome. finally stopped coughing up gunk a week or so after that.

I second the minty vape- it helps!
